Gunmen attack two U.S. convoys in Baghdad AP
February 15, 2004 BAGHDAD, Iraq Two U.S. convoys were attacked less than a mile apart in Baghdad on Sunday, and U.S. soldiers in one of the attacks opened fire, killing an Iraqi driving nearby and wounding six others, witnesses and hospital officials said.
The violence in the capital came as Iraqi security officials investigated who was behind one of the most sophisticated guerrilla attacks yet in Iraq a bold daylight assault by dozens of fighters on a police station in Fallujah, west of Baghdad, in which 25 people were killed, most of them policemen.
One U.S. Military Police officer was among those wounded in Saturday's assault, said Col. William Darley, a military spokesman.
There were conflicting reports of who may have been behind the attacks.

If what it reports is true, then once again it looks like the Bush administration is worse than I had imaginedeven though I thought I had taken account of the fact that the Bush administration is always worse than one imagines. Either Seymour Hersh is insane, or we have an administration that needs to be removed from office not later than the close of business today. The scariest part: "[Hersh] said he had seen all the Abu Ghraib pictures. He said, 'You haven't begun to see evil...' then trailed off. He said, 'horrible things done to children of women prisoners, as the cameras run.' He looked frightened. Seymour Hersh spoke... at the University of Chicago.... I took some scattered notes. The remaks will be disjoinedas will be the notesbut chilling. He asserted several things that he says he didn't have nailed down enough to write, but that he was confident of.... He then turned to the 40th president, referring obliquely to 138 names, then began to list them, saying those with long memories will catch on: they were the Reagan administration figures accused, indicted, or convicted of wrongdoing....

Military Police in Uzbekistan Provide Force Protection
By Staff Sgt. Johnny A. Thompson, USA
Special to American Forces Press Service KARSHI-KHANABAD, Uzbekistan, Jan. 26, 2004 – Soldiers can't take peace and quiet for granted. "Nobody ever thought 9/11 would happen, but here we are (in Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Iraq) nearly three years later as a result of it, so every day you have to be ready for anything. You have to be proactive," said Maj. Thomas Cooney, 342nd Military Police Detachment deputy provost marshal and operations officer. "There is no room for complacency over here." Pfc. Jared Butler searches a visitor leaving Camp Stronghold Freedom in Karshi-Khanabad, Uzbekistan, as Spc. Ashley Webber, searches his vehicle. MPs Kill Four Drive-by Shooting Suspects in Mosul
American Forces Press Service WASHINGTON, March 29, 2004 Military police killed four anti-coalition suspects in Mosul, Iraq, March 28 after stopping a car matching the description of a vehicle used in a drive-by shooting earlier in the day, Combined Joint Task Force 7 officials said in a news release. Early in the day, anti-coalition forces engaged a Task Force Olympia military police patrol in Mosul with small-arms fire. The military police pursued but were not able to apprehend the suspects. Late in the afternoon, a second patrol noticed a vehicle similar to the one that engaged the soldiers earlier. Four suspects opened fire when the MPs approached the vehicle. The MPs returned fire, killing all four suspects, the news release said. Two wounded coalition soldiers were taken to the 67th Combat Support Hospital in Mosul. Their injuries are not life-threatening. Inside the vehicle, coalition soldiers found three AK-47 assault rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, four RPG rounds, four RPG boosters, four grenades, a 60 mm mortar round and other assorted ordnance, the news release reported. Iraqi security forces and coalition soldiers are investigating whether the vehicle and its occupants were involved in any recent attacks against Iraqi government officials, Iraqi security forces or coalition soldiers.

The University - Military - Police Complex: A Directory and Related Documents. 1970. 88 pages. NACLA began in 1966 and quickly became one of the most important research organizations to emerge out of the U.S. student movement. Through the mid-seventies their publications concentrated on the role of U.S. corporations and foreign policy in Latin America, with special emphasis on U.S. universities, development policy, police training, and CIA covert activities. Reports were well-researched, with more facts than analysis. In the sixties students were concerned about defense and law enforcement contracting, and its influence on academia. Today our universities still sell to the highest bidder. This report contains hundreds of faculty names collected from lists of think tank directors and Defense Department contract summaries.
