A fibre optic camera was inserted inside the door
Researchers may be planning new attempts to unlock the secrets of the Pharaohs, after a robot sent into the heart of Egypt's Great Pyramid found its way barred.
My guess is that we probably going to have a statue of the king... gazing towards the sky and stars
Robert Bauvel, Egyptologist The miniature robot drilled a hole in a limestone door blocking a shaft and inserted a fibre optic camera through it only to find the chamber blocked by yet another door - not seen for more than 4,000 years. Despite the disappointment, several scientists called the discovery "very important", believing that "something amazing" may be hidden behind the second door. "The finding... promises almost with certainty that there is a chamber on the other side," Robert Bauvel, expert on ancient Egypt, told the BBC.

Antique columns rose up into blue sky from the deep yellow sand. Around me, identical ones, both standing and shattered, marked out the ancient basilica. Palmyra was all I had hoped, and we were the only travelers there. I had already visited many Roman and Islamic sites throughout Turkey and Syria. Next in line were the wonders of Jordon; Jerash and Petra. But the ultimate was yet to come, a journey down Egypt's Nile Valley with all its ancient wonders.

This has never been more true than it is today. The View from Nebo While many events in the early books of the Bible are regarded as more symbolically than historically accurate, the remainder of the Old Testament has long been considered a reliable record of thousands of years of Middle East history. But recent dramatic and controversial discoveries at archaeological sites in the region have raised questions about many of the most widely accepted Biblical narratives. In The View from Nebo, leading Wall Street Journal reporter Amy Dockser Marcus investigates how modern archaeology is changing not only our understanding of the Scriptures, but the face of the Middle East today. With a compelling blend of science, history, politics, and Biblical scholarship, Marcus takes the reader on a tour through the books of the Old Testament to reveal startling new discoveries about the history of that time, including: These recent findings, and the many more that Marcus details, present a history of the ancient Middle East that is alternative to the accounts in the Bible. The discoveries are controversial not only for what they tell us about the Bible itself, but for their powerful repercussions on the contemporary Middle East. As the past casts its shadow on the present in the struggle for political hegemony and territory

The Middle East Conflict
Video Summary: How do you introduce to sixth-graders a topic as complex and controversial as the Middle East? Justin Zimmerman starts by asking guided questions to assess his students' background knowledge of the region, then has them practice their negotiating and conflict resolution skills. (Note: This lesson was taught prior to September 11, 2001.) First, Mr. Zimmerman asks his students to define the region geographically and to identify the major religions of the Middle East: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Then, to engage students and help them understand how complex the problems in the region are, he has them wrestle with two hypothetical situations analogous to those faced by the people living in the Middle East: Students must choose which of three academic subjects is most important to their education, and defend their choice; then they must choose which one of three siblings is entitled to their parents' house.

Archaeology
Archaeology is the study of the human past. Its initial objective is the construction of cultural chronology. Its intermediate objective is the reconstruction of past lifeways. Its ultimate objective is the discovery of the processes which underlie and condition human behavior. Archaeology (and alternately Archeology) is a science well suited for anyone who enjoys biology, botany, geology, chemistry, history, psychology, art, and solving a great puzzle. It is not looting and robbing. Various countries have enacted laws and regulations to ensure that their legacies are not exported or destroyed. There are acts which intend to repatriate looted legacies. In the United States of America, many state governments are sensitive to the need for archaeological study and excavation when any development project state-sponsored or commercial uncovers evidence of historical human presence.
