Recently, a volunteer on this list sent me the following note. Please read it and consider it carefully. Volunteers are precious resources that the genealogy community can not afford to abuse. I am no longer able to do lookups due to the volume of emails I receive for help not related to my resource. I have people emailing me to get them birth certificates, to offer general genealogy advice, to do tombstone rubbings () - all sorts of stuff thathas nothing to do with my resource. It is out of hand and I can't sit here going through my email weeding out this garbage every day. I have had it. I am very sorry, and I know I have helped several people and I am glad of it - but there are too many people out there who are emailing me inappropriately. Please remove my address from your site.

I am not located in Michigan and have no resources myself. If something is not on the list, then I don't have access to it. Please read the list carefully. If you do not receive a response, consider that you may have asked for something to which the volunteer does not have access. Another good resource to try is

Clare County was established in 1840. Before the white people came, it was the home of the Native Americans, many of them of the Chippewa people. First settled by farmers, it was the site of an intense logging industry and now is once again the home of farmers, as well as a wonderful place for boating, skiing, fishing, camping, and relaxing.

    Welcome To The
(This website has no official connection to Isabella County, Michigan, Central Michigan University,
or the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe) Isabella County was formed in 1831 from parent counties, Saginaw and Midland. The county is located close to the geographic center of the lower peninsula of Michigan. While primarily rural in nature, Isabella County is also noted for it's oil and gas production and the manufacturing of machinery for industry, food service and wood products. Mt. Pleasant is the county seat and also the home of Central Michigan University and the Clarke Historical Library, the second largest genealogy and historical library in the state. Central Michigan University was opened in 1893 as the Central Normal School and Business Institute. The school was operated by the city of Mt. Pleasant until 1895 when it was taken over by the State of Michigan and became Central Michigan Normal School. CMU became a four year institution in 1918 and a university in 1959. The county also encompasses the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Reservation, home of the Soaring Eagle Casino.
