Intergovernmental Review (SPOC List)
It is estimated that in 2004 the Federal Government will outlay $400 billion in grants to State and local governments. Executive Order 12372, "Intergovernmental Review of Federal Programs," was issued with the desire to foster the intergovernmental partnership and strengthen federalism by relying on State and local processes for the coordination and review of proposed Federal financial assistance and direct Federal development. The Order allows each State to designate an entity to perform this function. Below is the official list of those entities. For those States that have a home page for their designated entity, a direct link has been provided below.

http://www.gvsu.edu/philanthropy/mnrp_rece.htm
Updated: February 16, 2004 Recent Research Capacity Building The results from the evaluation of the first cohort of organizations that went through the 2 1/2 year program yielded important results for the individual programs as well as support for an emerging framework on building capacity of grassroots organizations. Improvements were found for a majority of the groups in management knowledge and skills, and in key areas of organizational functioning such as governance and information technology. Programs reported increases in board membership and budgets. Changes in programming included increases in the number of youth served and program expansion. The value of the evaluation is also found in the modifications that were made for the next cohort of organizations including the sequencing of components, combining the assessor/mentor, and the pilot testing of three new areas: program development/evaluation, financial management and strategic planning. Capacity building through SCOPE is not a random provision of services but incorporates the processes of preparing for change, transformation and readiness for the change. How do organizations that participate in capacity building translate that learning to their organization? What are the costs and benefits of capacity building? What is the state of capacity and level of readiness of grassroots organizations? These questions and others are being answered through two studies funded by the Michigan Nonprofit Research Program at Wayne State University. The goals of the studies are to build a knowledge base for understanding small/emerging nonprofits in urban areas and how capacity building is used to strengthen organizations and their efforts in the community. For Undergraduate Students
The School of Public Health at the University of Michigan is committed to eliminating racial, ethnic and socioeconomic disparities in health (health disparities). Simply stated, health disparities mean that, in the US, people of color and the poor experience lower health status than Caucasians and higher income Americans. These disparities represent inequalities in that people of color and low-income people should be able to enjoy the same health status as whites and more affluent Americans, but they are systematically exposed to conditions and situations that have negative consequences for their health. slides provide several charts on health disparities.

Bachelor of Business Administration – Finance
E-mail an Advisor In June of 2003, the Michigan Bankers Association selected Walsh College as its premiere educational partner to provide bachelor degree preparation for banking professionals. Through its bachelor of business administration major in finance, Walsh College teaches the principles and applications of finance for commercial lending officers and bank managers and people aspiring to those professional careers. Please click here for more information on the Michigan Bankers Association program. Wall Street, the "Dow", NASDAQ, futures, options, risk, return - these are all terms synonymous with the finance industry. Finance professionals are responsible for managing money and assets - such as stocks and bonds - for either businesses or individuals. The primary goal of these businesses and individuals is to earn a high return on their investments. A Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Walsh College provides the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of financial decision making as well as the basics of business. With this degree, students will have the educational background to make sound financial decisions that will have a positive impact on the "bottom line" for companies and clients. Financial service representatives and financial managers are considered to be among the "hot jobs" for the future and among the fastest growing occupations in Michigan requiring a bachelor`s degree. The demands of global trade, the increase in complex financial instruments and changing federal and state laws and regulations have caused an increase in the need for experienced finance professionals.
