The program, Management of Lodging Systems, offers three course modules: Fundamentals of the Front Office, Delivering Quality Guest Service and Managing Revenues and Profits. The modules are designed for department managers, assistant managers and supervisors. Registration starts Friday, Nov. 15, and must be done through the HFTP web site. "It is one of HFTP's top priorities to provide for the education needs of its members," said Frank I. Wolfe, CAE, HFTP executive vice president and CEO. "As part of our education benefits, we provide excellent continuing education conferences throughout the year. It only makes sense to expand our offerings to online education so that our members have every opportunity to grow as professionals." Fundamentals of the Front Office is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the basic functions of the hotel front office. Units within this module examine the various parts of the hotel guest cycle and how they are interrelated.

Managing Financial Risk
in Your Nonprofit
Wednesday, June 23, 2004 Holiday Inn Fairlane Detroit, MI Veteran nonprofit managers often say that it’s only a matter of time before a nonprofit faces a theft, abrupt loss of funding, costly workers’ compensation claim or other threat to its well-being and resources. Financial risk management addresses the loss waiting to happen by:
  • Providing a game plan for avoiding mistakes and security gaps that can lead to an organizational crisis. Integrating practical measures that lift up and protect a nonprofit’s charitable, community-serving mission.
Risk management should never be about cancelling programs and services out of fear. A reasoned approach to risk enables a nonprofit to take appropriate, mission-focused risks. Participate in this training and learn:
  • How a practical approach to financial risk management can help your nonprofit avoid downside risks such as theft or violation of likely new regulatory requirements based on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

Financial Aid Overview The Law School's financial aid program endeavors to provide financial assistance to all full-time students seeking a Michigan J.D. who would be unable to meet the costs of their law school education if relying only on their own savings and support from their families. Michigan's aid program is very substantial and draws on a variety of Law School scholarship and loan funds, as well as funds from the federal government and other external sources. All aid applicants are expected to contribute part of their own resources and if applicable those of their parents and spouses. In addition, financial aid packages assume eligibility for federal funds. Students who anticipate eligibility problems should contact the Law School's Financial Aid Office prior to matriculation. Determining Financial Need The Law School's financial aid program is designed to bridge the gap between the cost of a legal education at Michigan and a student's available resources. In the interest of fairness, the Law School determines all applicants' financial need through a uniform method of analysis. The Law School formulates a

Debt Management/Loan Forgiveness Program Michigan's Debt Management/Loan Forgiveness Program provides an opportunity for University of Michigan Law School graduates to accept a lower paying job without feeling overwhelmed by the debt accumulated while earning their degree. The program will actually contribute to loan payments, making a modest paying job more realistic. Applicants working at least half-time in a law related occupation and graduating from the University of Michigan Law School in 1986 or later can be considered for the program. (Judicial Clerks are not eligible during their year(s) of clerkship.) The applications are processed and funds are disbursed annually. There are three basic steps used to determine how much assistance an applicant receives from the Debt Management Program.
Step One: Calculating Applicant's Expected Contribution toward eligible loan payments.
First, the applicant's annual available income (AAI) is calculated. A formula that includes income, assets, and various deductions such as undergraduate debt and childcare costs is used to determine the AAI. If the AAI is less than $36,000 the applicant is not expected to contribute any payments toward the loans that are covered under the program for that year. If the AAI is greater than $36,000, the applicant's expected contribution is 35% of the AAI over $36,000.

Construction Management Program
Construction Management (CM) is the study of the managerial and technological aspects of the residential and commercial construction industry. Construction is America's largest single industry that impacts virtually all other businesses. This dynamic industry always has need for talented, skilled professionals trained in the managerial, technological, economic, social, and environmental aspects of construction and project development. The CM program at Michigan State University is a national leader in preparing professionals to meet the current and future needs of the construction industry. The CM program, established in 1948 through the University's land grant, teaching, and outreach mission, has expanded to accommodate a changing industry, and today integrates business and technological course work focusing on both commercial and residential construction. The purpose of the CM program at Michigan State University is straightforward: To serve the construction industry through undergraduate and graduate programs, research, and outreach. It is affiliated with the Associated General Contractors of America, the National Association of Home Builders, and the Associated Schools of Construction. The size of the CM program is very student friendly. We have the best of both worlds, offering close knit undergraduate and graduate programs with the advantages of a large university setting. Traditionally, 100 new CM students join the Michigan State community annually. CM careers offer sound employment opportunities, rapid advancement, and a variety of daily activities.
