Information on DWD Data Policy The DWD is the National Meteorological Service of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its task is to guarantee the provision of meteorological information and services to the general public, areas dependent on the weather, and the economy. The DWD is also active in a market for meteorological services according to its statutory task. The tasks of Meteorological Services can only be fulfilled with the help of the worldwide exchange of data and information. In order to assure a reliable exchange of data and products, the National Meteorological Services are committed to observing standards and regulations of certain international institutions, such as WMO ICAO ECOMET EZMW and EUMETSAT , which are valid worldwide. ECOMET is of particular importance for the exchange of radar information in Europe. ECOMET was founded in 1995 to pool economic interests and meanwhile has 20 European National Meteorological Services as members. ECOMET catalogue according to ECOMET regulations. Before supplying data, products and value added services to third parties, it must, therefore, be ascertained in each case whether this falls under the scope of ECOMET. The price for data and products in the ECOMET catalogue is calculated by adding the information fee and the provision fee together: The provision fee contains not only the transmission costs, but is also reimbursement for the total outlay, such as contract maintenance and monitoring, upkeep and operation of the transmission systems. The provision fee is determined by the National Meteorological Service concerned, which supplies the customers with data and products, and is not subject to ECOMET ruling.
