1 Feb 94 22:35:52 GMT CB: factor of more than 50%? If they were, that'd be great, otherwise there isn't CB: really any point in getting replacements. Otherwise, I agree, I'm not really CB: attatched to my current body! MH: Hmm. I hope for your sake that you are attached to your current body. MH: Further, I strongly suggest that your aren't too hasty in replacing it. MH: Part of our neural pathways at birth would seem to have an expectation MH: of two arms, two legs etc. This has been implied by the study of phantum MH: limbs. This is a sensation that was first noticed in amputees. Basically There is a performing artist from Australia known world-wide called Stelarc. Apart from being a fantastic industrial/cyberpunk spectacle, he is very eloquant on the possiblities and philosophy of us changing our own bodies to suit our whims. He is very BraveNewWorld-like in his optimism.
I was first introduced to him via a lecture of his which I enjoyed more than his performance (even tho I'm into "industrial" culture). Part of his performance involves using a third arm attached to one of his biological ones and controlling it with gut muscles. He has mastered writing with three hands seperately, each hand doing its third of the word... simultaensously!

Donald Ahrens. We will not be able to cover the entire text due to time limitations; however, we will cover the content included in chapters 1 - 16. Some chapters and sections will be emphasized differently in order get an over all picture of the driving forces behind our weather. The laboratory portion of the lab has no textbook. Any material you need for the lab will be provided for you. Prerequisite: High school physics and precalculus. Objectives: Knowledge : The student will have a basic understanding of the terminology related to meteorology, the basic measurements of the atmosphere, and the physical principles that affect atmospheric phenomena. Skills : The student will be able to perform standard atmospheric measurements, plot and interpret standard meteorological charts, and forecast weather conditions based on current meteorological data.

    http://www.msc-ep.uni-bremen.de/Lectures/Weber_General_Meteorology.html
    General Meteorology
Dr. Mark Weber Longterm changes in atmospheric and surface parameters which may be signatures of climate change are rather subtle and are masked by shortterm natural dynamic and meteorological variability in the atmospheric system, which can be at times very extreme (hurricanes,
floods, drought). This course provides an introduction into general meteorological concepts and is organised as follows: I) Introduction
and Terminology, II) Earth's atmosphere and Sun, III) Thermodynamics of the Atmosphere, and IV) Meteorological Dynamics. The course attempts to explain the physical concepts behind the meteorological quantities which are presented in charts to analyse weather systems and the dynamics of the atmosphere. textbook: Ahrens, C.D., Meteorology Today, Brooks Cole, 1999.
