Metal detecting for placer gold nuggets is commonly referred to as "Nuggethunting" or "Nuggetshooting." Welcome to my Website. My name is Rob Allison, and I have spent the last 10 years prospecting with success in the Southwest desert regions. My gold prospecting experience extends from the Artic Circle down to the lower desert regions of Arizona, California and Nevada. Being a Native of Arizona, I spent the first five years of my gold prospecting career panning, sluicing, drywashing and dredging for gold nuggets. I also owned several claims within the Bradshaw Mountain range where I avidly prospected, and encouraged others to join. I have an extensive background in Geology, and I spent several years studying Economic Geology on a Community and University level. Without a doubt, it has helped me in the search for that elusive gold, but than again, it is not a "Sure Fire" method. Funny, the old-timers had it all figured out -

CBA guide to portable antiquities, metal detecting and archaeology
Most recent update: Wednesday 9th July 2003: The Goodison Review: Saving art for the nation is announced by the Treasury, to "...review the effectiveness and effiency of support to regional and national museums and galleries to help them aquire works of art and culture of distinction that might otherwise be sold abroad, and to make those items accessible to the public" . The government has invited responses to the review by 1st October 2003. The CBA has throughout its history played an active and influential role in campaigning for reforms of legislation, policy and practice in relation to portable antiquities - most especially in seeking to combat the illicit looting of archaeological sites and the trade in illegally removed cultural objects. In undertaking this work the CBA is advised by ' The Portable Antiquities Working Group ', a Presidential working party of the CBA with a membership of individuals with specialist knowledge drawn from a diverse range of archaeological and museums organisations. The Council for British Archaeology also acts as the convenor for the Standing Conference on Portable Antiquities , which brings together a broader constituency of archaeological, museums, governmental and academic bodies from throughout the UK.

55. CBA Fact Sheet Number 2: Advice For Metal Detector Users In England And Wales
2 metal detecting advice for users of metal detectors in England and Wales. Ihave heard that all archaeologists are hostile to metal detecting is this so?
http://www.britarch.ac.uk/cba/factsht2.shtml
CBA fact sheets
2 :: Metal detecting: advice for users of metal detectors in England and Wales
Britain's landscape is full of archaeological sites. Many of them are not obvious, consisting of buried features like infilled ditches and pits, structural remains such as walls, floors, or wells, or simply patterns of debris. Together, such traces contribute historical knowledge about where and how people lived, ceremony, worship, technology, agriculture and social structure. All archaeological discoveries have some potential to add to knowledge. For this to happen, however, finds must be reported and recorded so that the information they offer can be shared.
What does the law say?
If you wish to metal-detect on land which is not your own, you must get permission from the landowner (and occupier of the land if this is different from the owner) beforehand. If you metal-detect on land without consent, you may be charged with a criminal offence and you could be sued for damages. Some archaeological sites are protected by law. These are called Scheduled Ancient Monuments. It is an offence to use a metal detector on a Scheduled site without the written agreement of the Secretary of State.

I have been detecting since April 2001 and use a Minelab Explorer XS and now The Explorer MKII as my main machines and a Tesoro Cortez . My girlfriend has got the Minelab Sovereign Elite with the meter . Looks and feels great, she loves the thing and is doing well with it, seems to be alot better. Most of my finds have been made down in Dorset, but due to a lack of permissions as not local, I am having to try to find land in the surrey which is a very difficult area. I belong to a club called the weekend wanderers which solves allot of Sunday days out and is a terrific club, very friendly. So if you like, take a look at the finds I have made so far.
Explorer II is out in the UK
and I Have now Got One.
