Health and Psychosocial Instruments (HAPI)
Health and Psychosocial Instruments provides ready access to information on measurement instruments (i.e., questionnaires, interview schedules, checklists, index measures, coding schemes/ manuals, rating scales, projective techniques, vignettes/scenarios, tests) in the health fields, psychosocial sciences, organizational behavior, and library and information science. HAPI assists researchers, practitioners, educators, administrators, and evaluators, including students, to identify measures needed for research studies, grant proposals, client/patient assessment, class papers/projects, theses/dissertations, and program evaluation. By creating an organized resource of previously unavailable measurement information, HAPI: (a) provides a means of locating a variety of instruments, (b) helps to reduce inefficiency and cost, and (c) eliminates duplication and " reinvention of the wheel."
PsycINFO (HSLS affiliated users only)
Access to PsycINFO is through the OVID database collection. The PsycINFO database covers the professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines including medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, and other areas. Coverage is worldwide, and includes references and abstracts to over 1400 journals and dissertations in more than 30 languages, and to book chapters and books in the English language. Over 50,000 references are added annually. Popular literature is excluded. PsycLIT, available through the ULS, differs from PsycINFO in the following ways: (1) PsycLIT does not index dissertations or technical reports, and (2) PsycLIT is updated quarterly.

The Collected Writings of Melissa Mullek
Who in the World is Melissa Mullek? Melissa is a product of her environment, small southern town, devout Catholic parents, the same classmates from first grade to graduation. But Melissa is far from small town southern belle. She looks at the world through cynical eyes and sees beauty in the oddest places. Twenty-nine years old, mother of a smart alec eight-year old, still a child herself in many ways. What an opportunity. Take a look at her world. Swim in the local springs, stalk imaginary Indians on game paths through cool stands of sweet gum and poplar. Survive the state psychiatric hospital, restraints, fellow patients. Melissa is only twenty-nine, but it is a full twenty-nine years with more experiences than most people will every explore. The memoirs are real, as far as her perceptions go. Living and Dying is completely fiction and a work in progress. The other things are simply things as she sees them, saw them. I cannot tell you who Melissa Mullek is. I can only let you in on the products of Melissa Mullek. Decide for yourself. Honestly. She won't mind.

Mental Health - Disorders/Conditions
Anxiety Disorders by James Tighe , Clinical Nurse Research Fellow What are the symptoms? How likely am I to have this? Everyone experiences anxiety - in fact, being unable to experience anxiety can be a sign of quite a serious problem. We live in a world of hazards and anxiety is one of the strategies that the body uses to help the mind recognise danger and keep well out of its way. As with most mental illnesses, it's not the presence of anxiety alone that creates problems. It is more about how severe it is - and how much it gets in the way of life. What are the symptoms? Psychiatrists divide anxiety up into 3 main types: general anxiety, phobias , and panic disorder . If there is a particularly difficult situation at work or at home, the stress that this creates can spill over into other areas of life - and create anxiety. Similarly, a person who has experienced a very frightening situation may also carry the fear over to their everyday life. This is known as

    http://www.stepbd.org
STEP-BD is the largest treatment study ever conducted for bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness. It is a long-term outpatient project that aims to find out which treatments, or combinations of treatments, are most effective for treating episodes of depression and mania and for preventing recurrent episodes. The five-year project will enroll approximately 5,000 volunteers with bipolar disorder into the care of specially trained clinicians. Select a link below to learn more about the STEP-BD program. You have entered a web site that describes an NIMH-funded collaborative study on the treatment of bipolar disorder.
