This section is for anyone looking for information about a disability, including teachers, parents, family members, professionals, or a person who has a disability. While many disabilities will overlap in needs, I have tried to group the different categories by type of disability. Disabilities
Everyone has a disability - some just don't know it.
I may not agree with the thoughts of some of the sites listed, however I do this page for you. If you want my thoughts about something just ask. By far this is the hardest section to organize, since so many different disabilities can overlap in needs. A perfect example is a person with a head injury may or may not be affected physically. An organization may serve more than one type of disability, while others are highly specialized. I have tried to do a general break down to make referencing easier and quicker. To give you an idea of the lay out, " Above the Shoulders " contains links to disabilities that root from the brain, like: Alzheimer, Asthma, Autism, Epilepsy, Mental Health, TBI... While Physical will include sites that deal with disabilities like: Muscular Dystrophy, Spina Bifida.

Rosenberg, PhD The legal concept of the “eggshell plaintiff,” when explaining the causation of a plaintiff’s claimed psychological injury, may be an archaic and a misleading paradigm. The “thin skull” or “eggshell plaintiff” rule—often described as the “defendant takes the victim as found”—protects the rights of individuals whose preexisting fragility makes them particularly susceptible to injury. This rule provides that when a defendant’s tortious conduct causes harm that, due to the person’s preexisting physical or mental condition, is of a greater magnitude or different type than might reasonably be expected, the defendant is liable for all harm caused by the tortious conduct. Plaintiffs must demonstrate that the defendant’s alleged conduct was the cause of, or at least

HOME ABOUT CPR LITIGATION AND CONSULTING SERVICES STAFF ... SEARCH Center for Public Representation attorneys have contributed to the development of mental and physical disability law by publishing books and writing articles for scholarly and popular journals. Several of these published works have been favorably cited by courts in important opinions. The following featured books may be purchased directly from the publishers by following the links: Hollow Promises : Employment Discrimination Against People With Mental Disabilities
by Susan Stefan, JD Unequal Rights : Discrimination Against People With Mental Disabilities and the Americans with Disabilities Act
by Susan Stefan, JD This provocative book illustrates how the Americans with Disabilities Act has failed to alleviate discrimination against people with mental disabilities. Rich in descriptions of court cases and disability law, Susan Stefan shows how the ADA has been applied in a wide range of areas, such as employment, insurance, medical care, education, and professional licensing. Throughout, Stefan, a professor of law, intertwines moving first person accounts with a wealth of hard to find information (complaints under the ADA court settlements, opinion letters, and testimony from Congressional hearings). This book features a unique survey compiled by the author that compellingly describes how people with mental disabilities experience discrimination. Stefan discovered two groups: Those who are part of the American mainstream and who report that people often refuse to believe their struggles, and those who are publicly identified as "mentally ill" and who are considered incapable of any type of achievement. 448 Pages.

MISSION STATEMENT The Center for Public Representation is organized as a self-sufficient public interest law firm to promote change in the quality of lives of individuals with disabilities in Massachusetts and to pursue the systemic enforcement of legal rights on a statewide and national basis. The Center's primary purpose is to serve people who have or are considered to have disabilities. The Center also may assist, to a limited extent, other people who are institutionalized, discriminated against, or otherwise denied fundamental human rights. The Center will undertake this mission consistent with its nonprofit, tax-exempt status. The Center for Public Representation is a public interest law firm which has been assisting people with disabilities, both in the community and in institutional settings, for over thirty years. Its staff of ten attorneys and two paralegals work in its Northampton and Newton offices, although much of the Center's activities occur throughout Massachusetts and in other jurisdictions. Through its systemic advocacy over the past two and half decades, the Center has been a major force in promoting improvements in services for citizens with mental disabilities throughout the country.

Hobbies Help Physical and Mental Health
An article from ABCNEWS.com suggests that: Participating in leisure activities contributes to your physical and mental health and overall life satisfaction. You're healthier, happier and more cheerful. You enjoy life more," says Howard E.A. Tinsley, professor emeritus of psychology at Southern Illinois University and author of Psychological Benefits of Leisure Participation, a summary of 15 years of his research that involved interviewing 4,000 people with hobbies. Don't know if this has been peer-reviewed or if any double-blind studies have been done to replicate Dr. Tinsley's conclusions. An intriguing theory.

The Erosion Theory: A Pre-Mortem
As much for my own benefit as for anyone else's, I'm posting an edited version of Judge Ralph Wilborn's exposition of the Erosion Theory . This theory, also known as the "Holy Grail," the "Framework Argument" and the "I'm Beating My Head Against This Wall and I Can't Give Up" Gambit, is a curious artifact of late 20th Century Social Security advocacy. It has resonated in the hearts of precisely no one–at least no one who can make any difference in the lives of people who stand to benefit from the theory. And yet it continues to charm and fascinate those of us who advocate for the disabled. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court's application of
