Besides being an active field of research for many centuries, it plays a central role in number theory , differential geometry, group theory, mathematical physics and other branches of science. In McGill, algebraic geometry is represented by Peter Russell and Eyal Goren and is very much connected to the interests of other members of the department: Henri Darmon , Jacques Husrtubise and Niky Kamran . We are running a joint seminar with CICMA Activities in Algebraic Geometry. Initially, algebraic geometry was concerned with the study of curves in the plane and really started boosting up with the discovery of projective geometry . In this geometry, the line k k any field) is completed by adding one point at infinity resulting in the projective line P , the plane k is completed by adding a projective line at infinity to yield the projective plane P Thus P k U P k On a more conceptual level, the projective space

179. Center For Computational Finance
Center for Computational Finance. General information about the Center and its activities; downloadable technical reports; MSCF and Ph.D. student resum©s.
http://www.math.cmu.edu/~ccf/
The mission of the Center for Computational Finance is to
  • improve the interaction between academic researchers and the finance industry
  • enhance the environment for graduate education and research in Computational Finance at Carnegie Mellon University
Planned Center activities include:
  • Sponsorship of meetings. The Center sponsored a highly successful week-long meeting in the summer of 2000, drawing invited speakers and participants from around the world. The first day was devoted to a tutorial to introduce newcomers (many of whom were graduate students from other universities, partially supported by the Center) to the field. We plan to hold such meetings every three or four years. We will also support smaller, more frequent "cutting edge" working conferences. These conferences will be organized by interested Center faculty and financially supported by the Center. Attendance will be by invitation only. The organizer will select active researchers to participate in the conference. Each affiliate will be invited to send one participant, and Center faculty are always invited.
  • Nash Lecture Series.
