The site is also valuable for other educators and parents who need more information about this elementary mathematics program. Since this site is an open forum for teachers' and others' opinions and ideas, the views represented here do not necessarily represent the views of the site's collaborators. Our experience has shown that Investigations has the power to transform the way teachers teach and think about mathematics. But the road to transformation is not easy. This site is here to help. The site's collaborators This website is a collaboration between CESAME, the LAB at Brown, and the Math Forum. Since this site is an open forum for opinions and ideas, the views represented here do not necessarily represent the views of its collaborators. CESAME, The Center for the Enhancement of Science and Mathematics Education , is located at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. CESAME has provided financial and technical support to over sixty districts in Massachusetts that are implementing standards-based math and science curricula. Thirteen of these districts and over 50 schools began implementing Investigations with CESAME assistance. The staff at CESAME has a close working relationship with both district leaders and TERC, the developers of Investigations, with whom they discuss what support teachers, schools, and districts need through the various stages of implementation.

Cover Story Spotlight On Schools Featured Columnists Letters ... Travel New York City November 2003 CCNY-Austria Educational Collaboration by Pola Rosen, Ed.D. President Gregory H. Williams of the City College of New York, welcomed a meeting of college personnel and high level Austrian education ministers, quoting a letter from Mayor Bloomberg that thanked the Austrians “for providing New York City with outstanding math and science teachers to our secondary schools during a critical time of the rebuilding of our school system.” Originally focusing only on math and science teachers, the program now includes Austrian teachers in other areas of need. The Austrian government is now funding science research across the Atlantic. The mayor also thanked Minister Elisabeth Gehrer for shepherding the many cooperative, educational programs created during her tenure as minister. The academic exchange was created by Dean Alfred S. Posamentier, who began the linkage during the 1990 fall semester when he was a Fullbright Professor at the University of Vienna. Dean Posamentier wasted no time in establishing important links with Minister Elisabeth Gehrer, Fe-deral Minister of Edu-cation, Science and Cultural Affairs in Austria. Since 1998, 220 Austrian teachers have been teaching in NYC. Currently ninety still teach in New York City schools. The “Au-strians” this year in-clude Hungarians, Slovaks, Germans, and other neighboring countries.

Those Who Remember - Mary Queen of Peace School Mary Queen of Peace School (MQP) and the Royal Canadian Legion partnered to build a Web site to display photos of veterans. Legionnaires and their families are invited to submit photos, poems, stories and other items of interest for this site. To date, the Web site hosts over 350 photographs of Veterans and War Brides. The Royal Canadian Legion is currently helping students identify the people in the photos. The project is expanding as the invitation to participate was extended to all Legion Branches. Legion members are encouraged to contact schools in their areas and get them involved as well.
