Looking for ways to make sure everybody is present and interested? Education World's "Principal Files" team has some ideas for you! Staff meetings can be the most important and productive professional development opportunities of the school year; on the other hand, they can be the most dreaded and squandered time a teacher will spend. So, what makes the difference between wonderful and wasteful meetings? That's the question we posed to Education World's Principal Files team . We asked team members to tell us about their best-ever staff meetings. According to Ed World's P-Files team, successful staff meetings are a function of the purpose, the planning, and the pace of those meetings.

North Middlesex Regional School District Ashby Pepperell Townsend Massachusetts The North Middlesex Regional School District, serving the towns of Ashby, Pepperell and Townsend, is located in the north/central section of Massachusetts on the New Hampshire border. The three towns served by the district cover approximately 80 square miles and are located in the suburbs near the cities of Fitchburg, Lowell, Worcester and Nashua, NH. The district, which is growing in size, is fewer than 50 miles northwest of Massachusetts' capital city, Boston. Residents of the area are to be found working in a wide variety of vocations in the high technology, higher education, plastics, and paper enterprises that are prominent in the region. Fitchburg State College is located 10 miles south in Fitchburg, and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell is only twenty miles east. Lakes, mountains and state parks abound in the area with the mountain and seashore activities of New Hampshire and Cape Cod only one and one-half hour's drive away. Each town has a separate town meeting/selectman form of government. A single Regional School Committee, with membership from each of the three towns, is responsible for the operation of schools.

Dr. Merris Griffiths There's nothing I like better than tramping through fields, hiking up mountains and teetering on the brink of cliff paths (see Aber Ramblers I have an extensive preoccupation with coffee shops (and cakes!) and spend as much time as possible doing 'research' in this field. I 'make things', paint and draw (as a member of Clwb Art), follow the Wales art scene with interest, read whatever's within reach, watch far too much rubbish-TV, collect music by Donovan , and write lots of letters.
