Much like the revolutionaries of old, men and women are gathering in the halls of Harvard and public spaces of Cambridge and Boston and west into the Berkshires, to organize against the use of this paper-and-pencil test to sort children and make sweeping judgments about who should graduate from high school and who should not. A flurry of passionate and visionary books by A.S. Neill, John Holt, Herbert Kohl, Jonathan Kozol, and other outspoken critics inspired thousands of people to think differently about the nature and purpose of education.
