THE WASHINGTON TIMES
"The school systems are telling us how they transported students," Mrs. Grasmick told The Washington Times, adding that she will forward the results to Mr. Ehrlich next week. "Did the PTA pay or did the schools pay? ... The governor also asked me to look into [which school districts] issued the credit and [which released] students early."
The Times reported Wednesday that Mr. Ehrlich had asked Mrs. Grasmick to investigate circumstances of Monday's rally, saying his concerns centered on one school district giving community service credits and another that paid for buses to shuttle students to and from the event.
Mr. Ehrlich, a Republican, also criticized the Maryland State Teachers Association (MSTA), a co-sponsor of the rally, saying "the leadership of that union simply leans to the Democratic Party, and everyone knows it."
MSTA President Patricia A. Foerster defended her organization, saying it did not endorse a plan to give community service credits and did not ask schools to close early and provide transportation.

Chairman Davis, Sponsor McMillan, and members of the committee, I am Richard Falknor, vice president of the Maryland Taxpayers Association http://www.mdtaxes.org/ Any prevailing-wage scheme is a social and economic antique in today's Maryland - - - if indeed it ever had any validity even in the years of the Great Depression. In times of an economic downturn, prevailing-wage schemes further restrict scarce jobs. But now when we urgently must streamline Maryland state and local government, increase public-sector productivity, and slice pork from state and local budgets, Maryland prevailing-wage laws are an absurdity. No one has said it better than one seasoned state-wide office holder in a letter of February 17, 2000. This letter, sent to the chairman of the Maryland Senate Finance Committee, opposed a proposal to curtail the then-school-construction exemption from prevailing-wage requirements:

    Legislative Intern Program
The General Assembly's Legislative Intern Program offers approximately 100 of Maryland's college and university students the opportunity to provide research and staff assistance to legislators during each session and to have both an educational and practical work experience in the Legislative Branch of State government. Upon acceptance into the program, students interview for placement with legislators, committees, or caucuses of the Maryland General Assembly.
Juniors and seniors presently enrolled in a Maryland college or university are eligible to apply. Students should have a minimum 3.0 cumulative average and proof of competency in college composition. Many of the interns are political science majors; however, students working toward degrees in other areas who are interested in learning firsthand about the process of State government are encouraged to apply. Academic credits granted to interns by their colleges and universities range from three to 16, depending on the number of days per week the interns work in Annapolis and on the amount of additional academic work that is required by the sponsoring professors. (At Salisbury University, 12 credit hours are the maximum number of hours offered.)

A Brief Description For more information, visit Maryland General's Web site
Maryland General Hospital is a 300-bed community teaching institution that serves as the cornerstone of Maryland General Health Systems, Inc., a comprehensive network covering the continuum of care needs for more than 110,000 patients annually. Our History Maryland General was founded by a group of local physicians as a university affiliated teaching hospital in 1881. In 1911, the Baltimore Medical College, as MGH was then known, merged with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and began its long tradition of medical training and patient care that continues today. The hospital merged again in 1965 with the Baltimore Eye and Ear Hospital to become one of the premier teaching hospitals for medical students specializing in eye, ear, nose and throat care. In 1999, MGH affiliated with the University of Maryland Medical System. Programs/Services In addition to its ENT teaching program, today Maryland General has residency programs in medicine, OB/GYN and ophthalmology.
