The legal services programs listed below may be able to help you with your family law problem. Some programs such as the Legal Aid Bureau , Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) and local pro bono (or volunteer) programs may be able to assist you even if you cannot afford a lawyer. When you contact a program, please be ready to give them information about your income so they can decide if you qualify for their services. Some programs may charge an administrative fee.(Remember that some programs specifically handle cases for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.) If your income places you above the program's guidelines for legal services, you should call the Reduced Fee or Lawyer Referral Programs. You should also consult the yellow pages or with friends to recommend a lawyer for you. Many programs can only assist with certain types of cases. For more specific information on the area they serve, what restrictions they may have about accepting certain kinds of cases, and what their hours of intake are, see the MARYLAND FAMILY LAW RESOURCE GUIDE at the clerk's office.
