Skaggs of Golf company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines.  From late February 1969 until mid February 1970 I served in Vietnam with Golf company. On the following pages are around 1,000 pictures, parts of 9 maps, several pages from a diary, and various other items pertaining to Golf company's Vietnam experience.  Most of the pictures were loaned to me by other Marines.  Most, but not all of them, served with Golf company. There is a lot of verbage along with the pictures because I want you to know who the people were, what became of them, and just generally what was going on at the time. Though I was in Weapons Platoon, most of my tour was spent attached to 1st Platoon and that is where most of my thoughts lie.  Just below is a list of 1st Platoon Marines that were killed while I was in Vietnam.  Each of them had family and friends.  Each of them left a hole in the Platoon that we mostly covered as best we could by false bravado and other machinations of the soul that are fortunitly so available to the young.  But even the best covered holes eventually leave their mark on the surface, and so it is with me. The men listed below are not just names.  In my minds eye I can still see their deaths, still hear them, still feel the despair that at times was so real.

With the base and sizable Marine presence, the U.S. military hopes to increase its available firepower beyond what was possible with small Special Operations units in the region, officials said. i C liquez sur cette image, ce n'est pas de la pub mais mon nouveau site Bonjour, J'ai effectué un séjour de 2 ans à Djibouti en tant que plongeur professionnel. Au cours de ce séjour j'ai réalisé environ 2.000 photographies sous-marines à l'aide d'un Nikonos 5. J'ai eu le plaisir de présenter pendant 3 semaines, une exposition de 50 clichés tirés en 30 x 40 au Centre Culturel Français Arthur Rimbaud. Je vous invite à en découvrir quelques-uns dans ce site. Si vous comptez venir ou êtes déjà sur Djibouti, v ous trouverez également dans ces pages les coordonnées et un descriptif sommaire des sites de plongée de ce pays (les 7 frères, l'île aux requins, les épaves, etc...). Je vous conseille de vous équiper d'une combinaison de 1 mm si vous venez en été, de 3 mm si vous venez au printemps, et d'une combinaison de 5 mm si vous venez en automne ou en hiver. Les conditions de plongée sont très faciles sauf dans la zone des 7 Frères. Sur Djibouti, malheureusement, la visibilité n'est pas toujours au rendez-vous. CNN's Bill Hemmer filed this report on today's military operations from the Marine base at Kandahar Airport in Afghanistan. BILL HEMMER: I can tell you that last night we noted a substantial increase in Marine activity throughout this base on New Year's Eve, and we finally went to bed late last night around 1:30 a.m. 2 a.m. local time here. There was a convoy lined up along the tarmac here. We did not have any details about the operation at that time, but certainly we were aware that something was going down ... . The Marines do confirm right now an operation is underway involving several hundred Marines in the province of Helmand. Now in terms of geography, if you want to look at northern and southern Afghanistan, divide it in two, take the southern half the southern part of Afghanistan. Two of the main provinces here one is Kandahar, also the city of Kandahar, and the other is Helmand Province just to the west of there. In Helmand Province, in the northern section of that, there's a small town called Baghran. It is believed by many people, many sources, many reports indicate the strong possibility that Mullah Mohammed Omar may be taking refuge there.
