  • Sigma Eta Chapter of Tri-Beta Honor Society. Our Barry Chapter of Tri-Beta was established in 1980. The Tri-Beta National Honor Society was founded in 1922 by Dr. Frank G. Brooks. It is devoted to scholarship, research, and service in the biological sciences. The first Beta stands for the Greek work Balanos, which means “acorn”; it represents life in and on the ground. The second Beta stands for the Greek work Boudetase, which means “little bird”; it represents life in the air. The third Beta stands for the Greek word Boax, which means “fish”; it represents life in the water. All three may be summed up in one word BIOS, meaning life. Our three purposes are:
    • to promote scholarship in the biological sciences;

Our primary emphasis continues to be a serious commitment to undergraduate education critically developing an understanding and application of the patterns and processes of life to students' own professional and personal lives and fostering an enduring "chaos of delight" with the living world.
