Working with such agencies as the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the Library of Congress, the Map library continues to increase its collection. Since the Map Library is part of Special Collections division and is also a Federal depository, the collection is non-circulating. However permission is given to allow certain items of collection to leave the Map Library for the purpose of photocoping. For further information concerning items that are allowed to be photocopied or the Map Library policies, please consultant a member of the staff. Below is a listing of some of the resources that you will find in the collection.

The MPIMG Zebrafish projects
Zebrafish
The zebrafish is the only vertebrate model organism that allows embryological, molecular and genetic analysis to be combined ( ) and for which whole genome saturation mutagenesis seems possible ( ). In a landmark issue of Development in 1996, the results of two large ENU (Ethylnitrosourea) mutagenesis screens were published, this success prompted many other researchers to adopt zebrafish as an important model, and now over 2000 mutants are available ( http://www.zfin.org/ ). Although much has already been achieved in zebrafish genetics, positional cloning remains a slow and difficult task ( ). Thus only a small fraction of the ENU-generated mutants have been cloned and the majority of these have been cloned through the candidate gene approach, leaving many of the novel phenotypes and genes untouched. The principal reason is the lack of the genetic and genomic resources necessary to clone the mutants.
The end sequencing of random cDNA clones to generate Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) has proven to be an excellent method of isolating large numbers of genes ( ), and made a tremendous impact in the human (
