The Redmond, Wash.-based software giant has unveiled a customized, Malay-language version of its Windows XP Home Edition that will be bundled with all new computers under the Malaysian government's new PC Gemilang project. Launched this week, this initiative aims to raise PC penetration rates in Malaysia from about 15 percent currently to 35 percent over the next two years. To achieve the goal, the Malaysian government has asked Pikom, a local IT association, to develop a low-cost desktop for the masses, said Butt Wai Choon, managing director of Microsoft Malaysia. Pikom's budget PC features an 1.7 GHz Intel Celeron processor, 128MB of RAM, a 40GB hard drive, a 15-inch CRT monitor and peripherals such as a mouse, keyboard and speakers.

Increasingly, international organizations are teaming up to share resources and expertise for wildlife conservation. Such alliances among groups that share similar goals can result in mutually beneficial programs. As early as 1976, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) Peninsular Malaysia brought in a Peace Corp volunteer to assist tiger management. In the more recent past, DWNP supported research projects to establish the baseline ecological information on the Malay Tiger by University of Florida, WWF-Malaysia, and Wildlife Conservation Society, while the WildAid's Asian Conservation Awareness Program, together with DWNP and Malaysian Nature Society, the largest local environmental NGO, produced a series of public awareness programmes. Furthermore, the DWNP Law Enforcement Division continues to collaborate with TRAFFIC Southeast Asia on the information intelligence work to control wildlife trade.

Sarawak is located on the island of Borneo, and is one of the two states that make up East Malaysia. Sarawak and Sabah are separated from West Malaysia (Peninsula Malaysia) by the South China Sea. With an area of 124,449.51 square kilometres, Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia, making up some 37.5% of the country's total area. The State is divided into eleven Administrative Divisions. Kuching is the State capital and the administrative centre for the First Division of Sarawak.
