With Your Support of the Maine Public Policy Institute Wha t Is the Maine Public Policy Institute? Mis sion of the Maine Public Policy Institute The Maine Institute is governed by an independent Board of Directors and is a nonpartisan, tax-exempt organization. The Institute relies solely on voluntary support from individuals, private foundations and businesses, and as such neither accepts government funding nor conducts contract research. Why a Maine Free-Market Think Tank? Up until the early 1990s, Maine was traditionally a moderately taxed state with a regulatory burden that was somewhere in the middle of the pack among the 50 states. Throughout the 1990s, however, the state and local governments set about growing the scope and depth of government programs. The price of this activist government includes high taxes, an uncompetitive business environment, lost jobs, and a declining population.

The Maine E-conomic Classroom

The main goal of the Maine E-conomic Classroom financial literacy series is to provide Maine high schools with direct access to high quality programs delivered by financial industry practitioners, regulators, and educators.
The information will be presented in a factual and unbiased format in an effort to improve the knowledge and decision making skills of young adults as they prepare to fully enter into both the Maine and national economies. Combined with existing instruction at the high school level, Maine E-conomic Classroom strives to make Maine students the most financially literate in the nation. Sound personal money management skills will lead directly to higher levels of savings/investing, home ownership, improved credit ratings, and a stronger Maine economy.
