I have created this page currently listing 357 programs to help people find women's studies programs with ease. My undergraduate degree, from Appalachian State University, had a concentration in women's studies; but I had great difficulty finding a graduate program. Eventually, I found NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, a self-design program in which you can incorporate women's studies. Maine's Acadia National Park
, because of the bare mountain peaks which he observed. The most famous of the seven peaks came to be known as Mount Cadillac in honor of Sieur Antonine de la Mothe Cadillac, another early French explorer. In the course of his naval campaign of the summer of 1696, Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville visited the Acadian settlements of Pentagoet (today Castine, Maine) and Fort Pemaquid (today Pemequid).
Pierre Lemoyne d'Iberville Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842 which put an end to the boundary dispute beween Canada and the United States, this community was split down the middle. Those on the right bank were to be American, those on the left Canadian.
According to the 1990 Census of the United States, of the roughly one million citizens of the state of Maine over the age of five, 336,000, or about one-third, are of French, French Canadian or Acadian origin. Of that number, approximately 80,000 use the French language on a daily basis. The intensity of this use and the vitality of the language varies greatly depending upon proximity to French Canada, community size, degree of urbanization and a host of other factors. In the first section of this website, entitled Today's Population, maps illustrate the distribution of Maine's French communities and provide insight into the vitality of the language and culture of each.
The second section, Historic Roadways, hearkens back to the historical processes which gave rise to these communities and identifies and locates the principal routes which have brought them into being. Examples of early immigrants who used these routes are provided.

  • Recreation and leisure is the largest industry in the world, and professionals in that industry from coaches to program administrators help people use their leisure time better by matching them with available resources. Professionals in this field provide an important social service, particularly when they help injured and disabled clients get the therapy they need to lead fuller lives. Many Southern graduates work in nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities, helping people with dementia, autism, or behavioral problems. Other careers are in city parks and recreation departments, community agencies like the YMCA and Boys and Girls Clubs, and commercial organizations like camps and ski resorts. The work graduates do varies widely, from sports instruction to developing better therapeutic programs to managing a busy office in the recreation industry. For example, one recent Southern graduate is now the recreation supervisor for the city of Bloomfield's (Connecticut) parks department. Another is the recreation director at a veterans' hospital.

October 23, 2003 STATES, CITIES, ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS SUE BUSH ADMINISTRATION ON GLOBAL WARMING, CHALLENGE EPA'S REFUSAL TO REDUCE GREENHOUSE GAS POLLUTION BOSTON - Attorneys General from 12 states today joined with three major metropolitan cities, one island government and several prominent environmental groups to formally challenge the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on its failure to regulate greenhouse gas pollutants, the leading cause of global warming. "As is evidenced by the wide range of governments and environmental groups who have signed on today's legal challenge, global warming is no longer some abstract idea far off in the future — it's a serious threat of growing concern to the public," Massachusetts Attorney General Tom Reilly said. "Five months ago, Massachusetts joined with two other New England states in suing the Bush Administration over its failure to take action. Today, 12 states, three major metropolitan cities – including New York City, home to 8 million people – the island government of American Samoa, and virtually every major environmental group in the country are calling on the EPA to act."

By Scott Rothschild , Journal-World Thursday, December 11, 2003 Topeka State officials have hired a leading gambling consultant to conduct a market research study on whether expanded gambling would be right for Kansas and how much money it could generate for the state. advertisement "It will give the governor an idea of what the market is," Kansas Lottery Executive Director Ed Van Petten said. "She is getting figures, depending on what faction is giving them, from $500 million to $1 billion." An estimated $80,000 contract between the state and Christiansen Capital Advisors LLC is about to be finalized, pending routine background checks.
