Their weight range is 42 to 60 grams. Females tend to be slighter larger than the males. All nine species are in the genius AGAPORNIS. Native to Africa and surrounding islands, many species were imported into the U.S. in large numbers in the late 20 th century. The most common is the Peach-Face. Peach Face Lovebirds come in a wide variety of color mutations including normal green, Dutch-Blue, Lutino, Pied, Creamino, Cinnamon, and in combinations of the above. Due to the relative ease of breeding in captivity peach-face are quite common in aviaries and in pet stores. Color does not reflect on individual pet quality, so choose your bird for its personality. Birds who were hand-fed make excellent pets. Parent raised lovebirds can be difficult to tame. When considering the purchase of a lovebird you should take into account the fact that they are full of energy, and can be quite noisy with their endless chattering and shrill scream, although not anywhere nearly as loud as the larger parrots. Lovebirds are extremely playful and a joy to watch. With their boundless energy they will swing from toy to toy, hop from perch to perch, never seeming to tire. There is nothing more comical than watching a lovebird do the "birdie splits", or playing in their water dish, or rolling around on the bottom of the cage with a ball. They enjoy perching on their owners shoulder and playing in their owner's hair. Hiding in your hair, under your collar, in your pocket, in a empty paper towel roll, etc., is a favorite game.

My birds don’t always mind me - a strict order was given to them to not breed. After pulling eggs for a year, all the while fearful the hens would deplete their bodies by their stubborn persistence to show me that I’m not the boss - they finally won. This site should actually wait for posting until all the eggs hatch, but hand feeding will take up my time! The babies shown above are nearing their weaning stages, but we have more families arriving any day now! The following pages are filled with pictures of the flock. The numbers are constantly changing. Some of the sweeties pictured are not for sale. Not that they are particularly a one person bird, I can’t imagine life without them. I ship my weaned birds only between May and September - provided that there are not several flight changes nor long layovers. Since there are many breeders and aviaries, it just makes sense to find one close to the buyer, so as to eliminate stress on the bird (not to mention the seller, who feels as though these little creatures are her own flesh and blood!) My birds are all hand fed, abundance weaned, and tame. They are out of their cages more than in. They are provided with cages larger than is recommended for their size, receive pellets, seeds, cooked rice, pasta, cereal, wheat bread, millet, bottled water, vegetables, fruit, nutriberries, my dinner, cuttlebone, mineral blocks, beak conditioners, three kinds of perches, toys, toys, and more toys. The birds and I create most of their toys with FDA approved wood pieces, rope, leather and beads. Most of them enjoy playing (supervised) on a hamster wheel or in a ferret tunnel. The lovebirds bathe in shallow saucers and the tiels receive a mist at least twice a week.

It is fairly rare to see lovebirds in the wild in Arizona. They have made several appearances and tend to always stay close together somewhere in the four pine trees that surround our water garden. They must live in the neighborhood. On several occasions, when they were perched on a low branch, armed with camera in hand, I have been able to get within about 10 feet of them. I caught one of the lovebirds in the picture to the left resting just long enough to snap a picture. My husband observed a brief commotion in the small stream beside the water garden recently. See the area below the green arrow in the picture. Upon a closer look he discovered one of them taking a morning splash. The lovebird flew away before he could get it in the picture. What a beautiful song they sing. Perhaps it's an omen. Lovebirds. Heart-shaped water garden. They just seem to go together.

Driftaway Lovebirds Hello and welcome to my lovebird Website. My name is Rachel Wersted and I am a hobby breeder of Peachface Lovebirds. I have been breeding lovebirds for about 4 years and am currently located in El Paso, Texas. However we do move around alot because my husband is in the military. I originally started with one pair of lovies that I bought while we were stationed in Hawaii, and fell in love with their outgoing and energetic personalities. Since then we have added a few more pairs. We are currently producing Whiteface, Violets in several mutations, Seagreen, Dutch Blue, American Cinnamon, Australian Cinnamon, and lots of pieds.
