THE ADJUTANT GENERAL
Major General Bennett C. Landreneau
Major General Bennett C. Landreneau is the Adjutant General for Louisiana. He is responsible for the deployment and coordination of programs, policies and plans affecting the more than 11,000 members of the Louisiana Army and Air National Guard. He is also the Director of the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. General Landreneau was born on October 4, 1947. He graduated from Vidrine High School and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College. In June of 1969, General Landreneau enlisted as a Private in the Louisiana National Guard. He attended Louisiana State Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1971. During Operation Desert Storm, he served on active duty in Southwest Asia as Commander, 527th Engineer Battalion. The General was assigned to his present position as Adjutant General on November 8, 1997. A few of the many distinguished awards that General Landreneau holds are the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Louisiana Distinguished Service Medal, the Louisiana Legion of Merit and the Louisiana War Cross.

Return to the main page Previous document Next document 19-653 Louisiana School for the Deaf The mission of The Louisiana School for the Deaf is to provide educational services to children who are hearing impaired and reside in the State of Louisiana and whose hearing loss is such as to preclude their making normal progress in regular classrooms of the public schools. The goals of LSD are: 1. Provide specialized educational services germane to the disability of deafness inclusive of language acquisition, communication skills development, and maximum use of residual hearing. 2. Provide students with a comprehensive educational program which includes an educational program ranging from preschool to 12th grade, extra-curricular activities, social education programs, athletics, vocational education, and supportive services comparable to that of educational opportunities generally afforded to children who are able to hear. 3. Provide students with vocational education/training as well as transitional/post-graduate services which will enable the student who is deaf to make a choice in both a vocation and a path for post secondary training, and to develop marketable skills for employment. 4. Provide the community with a better awareness of deafness and its consequences.

The goal of LSMSA is to strive to provide a challenging educational experience in a nurturing residential environment for all the students it was created to serve. LSMSA has four programs: Administration/Support Services Program, Instructional Services Program, Residential Services Program, and the Telelearning Program. The Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts (LSMSA), located in Natchitoches, is a unique educational institution, providing and advanced curriculum and program for academically- and artistically-motivated high school juniors and seniors from throughout the state of Louisiana. [Washington, DC (May 20, 2002)] All over Louisiana high school seniors are celebrating being named as one of one hundred students chosen as 2002 Horatio Alger Louisiana Scholars. Each will receive a seven thousand five hundred dollar scholarship to attend the college or university of their choice. A complete list of all one hundred 2002 Horatio Alger Louisiana Scholars may be found by visiting www.horatioalger.com/scholarships One hundred students from across the state of Louisiana have been selected as Horatio Alger Louisiana Scholars based on several criteria. Foremost among the requirements is having overcome adversity through integrity, initiative and hard work. Each of the one hundred Horatio Alger Louisiana Scholars has a compelling story of how hard work was the key to their success in high school. Other criteria for the scholarship are critical financial need, academic success and involvement in co-curricular activities. In addition to the scholarship students selected as Horatio Alger Louisiana Scholars are extended educational and financial counseling through the Horatio Alger Association. 2002 marks the second year of the Horatio Alger Louisiana Scholars Program.
