Louisiana INTECH Application Packet Overview Responsibilities Locations and Times Costs Overview of Louisiana INTECH
Louisiana INTECH
is an intensive, structured, approximately 60-hour LDE Staff Development Program. INTECH provides many examples of effective technology-based strategies that support and enhance curriculum and can provide a catalyst for fundamental change in overall teaching and learning processes.
The INTECH Framework was originally developed in Georgia after a thorough inspection of research and literature on effective technology professional development practices. In the Louisiana adaptation of this professional development model, Louisiana's Content Standards are the basis for all technology-connected lessons and lesson planning activities. The foundation skills embedded in these content standards - communication, problem solving, resource access and utilization, linking and generating knowledge, and citizenship - provide a rationale for technology connections across all disciplines. Additionally, the Information Literacy Model for Lifelong Learning, another component of all Content Standards, reinforces the ways in which technology can support students and teachers in the quest to become independent, life long learners.
The technology skills embedded in the INTECH Framework are built on standards developed for ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) and adopted by NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teachers of Education).

Most people are under the misconception that reporters are meant to serve the public . They are not. They are paid employees who serve their employers. While the employer needs to preserve a general credibility in terms of the news covered, media owners typically cower when challenged by advertisers or major government figures. When major media organs go after reporters after a story hits, question their motives . Do your own investigating. It takes time, but how else will you know who to trust? The links and stories on this page are designed to help you understand how the media works, and how to improve your own media literacy.

Louisiana State University "One of the contemporary problems of governance that troubles me most is the difficulty of getting good ideas into the public discussion.... Many good ideas do not find a place in our civic dialog, thus limiting our ability to solve social, economic and political problems." Senator John Breaux The Breaux Symposium will bring in outstanding scholars, journalists, corporate executives, political and civic leaders, and others to discuss a national issue of pressing contemporary importance. The central question at each symposium will be this how well is the public being informed, and what must be done to increase public awareness and constructive debate? The first Breaux Symposium was held in April 2000 with a discussion of political reporting at the turn of the century. Washington Post columnist David Broder, Time magazine managing editor Walter Isaacson, and former television reporter Marvin Kalb focused on the tendency of media to concentrate on scandal rather than issues and its difficulties illuminating debate over important social choices without merely seeming to pit one political side against the other. The 2001 John Breaux Symposium, held in March, is entitled "Voting Alone." It will focus on the disconnections among voters, the amount of information available to the media, how voters are making decisions and the impact of the historic 2000 presidential election on future interaction among media, candidates and voters.
