Today's fast-paced business world is driven by knowledge and innovation. Technology, innovation and education must become the driving factors behind Louisiana's diversification. Technology will offer new challenges, new opportunities and will improve our quality of life. Education will prepare the citizens of the state to excel in our rapidly changing world. Louisiana has chosen to embrace education and technology as a priority. Knowledge, innovation and diversification will produce a vibrant, competitive Louisiana that will meet and exceed the challenges of the new economy. The mission of the Technology, Innovation and Modernization (TIM) area is to promote an aggressive technology environment, develop collaborative programs and build partnerships for the technology-driven economic progress of Louisiana businesses and communities. TIM provides a vital link that helps to bind the nine cluster areas together and supports the cluster initiative by focusing on collaboration and communication. TIM is the focal point for technology-based economic development and works to raise the level of public discourse and increase awareness about the elements and benefits of a technology-led economy, and increase community/industry involvement in accessing and using technology. TIM works in partnership with others to ensure mechanisms are in place that increase key elements such as research and development, commercialization and a skilled workforce.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION (REMEDIAL) GUIDELINES
The following policy was established by the LTC to define the placement tests utilized, placement requirements for programs, levels of developmental education, requirements, and evaluation.
  • The primary purpose of developmental education is to prepare students for success in their career preparation courses. The secondary purpose is to prepare students for university admission requirements. Students seeking a credential, i.e. Associate of Applied Science (AAS), Technical Diploma (TD), Certificate of Technical Studies (CTS), or Technical Competency Area (TCA) are required to take a placement test. A student may retest, however there is a 30-day waiting period for the ASSET if only one form is administered. The ASSET includes four different forms. If a different form is used for the retest, there is no waiting period. There is no waiting period for the COMPASS or ACT (ACT is accepted, but not administered by the LTC). Regardless of a waiting period or not, students may only retest during scheduled testing times. Due to the cost of retesting to the student and campus, students should prepare sufficiently prior to scheduling a retest. Students who are enrolled in a developmental education course must be referred by the Developmental Education Instructor in order to schedule a retest, if a retest is desired.

Investing in Education for the Bayou Region
is a present- and future-oriented fundraising effort designed to finance major priorities of the University. These priorities emerged from the development of the University's Strategic Plan and from a comprehensive study of the educational needs of the region. However, the state of Louisiana does not have the resources to fund these important initiatives. Is this the right time for a campaign?

OHIORN I was on the net surfing through all kinds of sites, trying to find fun games for large groups of people. Couldn't find anything new or exciting. I have in-services with large groups of people at the same facility. I like to mix education with fun and it is hard coming up with new ideas. Any ideas out there?
I work in 105 bed facility that has an East and West and have debated having competitions between the two sides that last over a week or so.....you know....the Battle of the East vs the West. Haven't quite figured out how yet but I am working on it! Everyone loves a little friendly competition! BEV How about making a crosswork grid. Have the two sides make up a list of terms to use for crossword entries. They would make their own crosswords. It will be a great learning tool and make learning as part of the game and contest.

Principals Set Goals for New School Year
The school doors are open; the goals for the new school year are set. This week, Education World invited our "Principal Files" principals to share the goals they have set for the school year that just got underway. One restriction: Nobody was allowed to say "raise test scores" because that goal is a given! The goals those principals shared are as varied as the schools they represent. Learn what principals had to say in this article, which stands as a lesson in Goal Setting 101. Included: Goals related to curriculum, motivating teachers, involving parents, more!
Principal Deborah Harbin has one main goal this year. "I want to be in the classrooms more and have professional conversations with teachers about curriculum and instruction," Harbin told Education World. "The work of the school happens in the classrooms. If I want to influence my school, then that's where I need to be."
