TRULY USEFUL WEBSITES (Click here) The Parent-Pupil Education Program (PPEP) is a free statewide outreach service, which serves families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing from birth through 21 years of age. Parent Educators located in different regions of the state provide family-centered early intervention to assist parents in enhancing natural interaction and communication with their child who is deaf or hard of hearing. Through the Parent-Pupil Education Program, families are offered instruction, information, and support to assist them in meeting the unique needs of the hearing-impaired child. Resource services are also provided to professionals, community members and families of hearing-impaired children attending school in their home parishes. The PPEP hosts a Family Learning Vacation each summer here at L.S.D. This is a wonderful experience during which entire families from throughout the state spend a weekend together learning about deafness. While parents participate in various workshops about Deaf culture, Deaf psychology, and modes of communication, their deaf and hearing children enjoy structured activities together in a camp-like atmosphere. Through the many experiences of this weekend, it is hoped that parents acquire information and skills to help them meet the challenges of rearing a hearing-impaired child.
