Blue Skies and Spring Break Add Up to Record Year for Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™
Taking advantage of great weather and spring break, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo had its highest-ever attended event. In all, a record 1,890,174 people went through the gates to enjoy the food, fun and family atmosphere. The crowds had an easier time getting around Reliant Park thanks to the added Ford Trams running between venues, and increased ways getting to and from Reliant Park with the addition of METRORail and new parking options. The following is a brief recap of highlights from the 2004 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo:
  • This year's event drew a record 1,890,174 visitors for general attendance (for all activities on the grounds). The previous record was set in 2000 with 1,889,861 visitors. Rodeo paid attendance topped 1 million for the 10th consecutive year, for a total of 1,126,092. While this was not a new record, it was the third highest paid rodeo attendance in the Show's history. The World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest presented by Miller Lite had a record paid attendance of 183,339 visitors.

Running a business is never easy, but building an effective web site can often make a huge difference. We'll use this site to introduce our business and explain the goods or services we have to offer. People don't want to spend time figuring out what a business does, so our home page will highlight the most important features of both our business and our web site. We'll think of the home page as a kind of portal, giving customers the information they want at a glance, and offering lots of links to draw them in to the rest of the site.

It looks at the current state of UK agriculture, and presents an 'ethical matrix' assessing the ethical impacts on agriculture and food industries, citizens, farm animals, and the ecosystem. It also provides information on key areas of agriculture which would benefit from an ethical approach, including organic farming, sustainable land management, integrated farm management, CAP reform, and farm animal welfare. Endophyte Toxins in Grass Seed Fields and Straw
Effects on Livestock
S. Aldrich-Markham and G. Pirelli
Both grass seed growers and livestock producers can benefit by grazing animals on grass seed fields and feeding grass seed straw. However, problems can develop if livestock consume turf varieties of tall fescue and perennial ryegrass. Some turf varieties are infected with high levels of endophyte, which produces toxins harmful to livestock.
What is endophyte?
Endophyte is a fungus that lives inside the grass plant. The relationship between grass and endophyte is symbiotic; that is, it benefits both. Although, the endophyte does not harm the grass, it produces toxins that are harmful to livestock. Since it does not affect the appearance of the grass plant, its presence can be detected only by laboratory analysis. Some grass varieties grown for turf seed have high levels of endophyte. The reason is that infected plants can have increased growth, increased drought tolerance, and resistance to certain insects-qualities for which plant breeders select. All of the forage varieties of tall fescue and perennial ryegrass produced in Oregon, however, are endophyte-free or have very low levels of endophyte. Breeders of forage varieties have been selecting out infected fields since the 1970s, when the connection between endophyte in tall fescue and a livestock disease called fescue toxicity was discovered.

    General Information
Ontario is recognized as a supplier of safe, high quality agricultural products. Today's consumers expect their meat, milk and eggs to be free of any drug residues. The proper use of livestock medicines on-farm contributes to animal health and welfare by relieving suffering, preventing or treating disease and contributes to safe, wholesome products. In Ontario, livestock medicines are available for sale through licensed veterinarians or, in the case of certain products, through lay or over-the counter livestock medicines outlets. Over the counter (OTC) sale of livestock medicines contributes to production efficiency through reduced costs and ensures wider product availability to livestock farmers. Approximately 750 outlets in Ontario are licensed annually to sell livestock medicines.
