Customer Reviews Very easy to understand This is a text I used when I was studying German at university, and I have found it generally well laid out book and easy to understand. Each in almost entirely written in German, and each has a theme with examples of of these themes in everday life. The book is full of pictures, which I find conducive to learning. At the end of each chapter, there are explanations of how the grammar works, and a list of vocaulary relevant for the chapter. There are plenty of pictures One review has mentioned that it is not a book for self teaching. I can not comment on this time about that at this stage, however I did have to end my course at university prematurely, and I intend to continue learning from this book.

Malaysian History Section: Indonesian History Section The Portuguese in the Moluccas, the Dutch and the VOC, British Rule in Indonesia, The Culture System, Liberalism and the Acehnese Wars. Each selection includes a list of new vocabulary items and a set of ten comprehensive questions. These questions will help improve the student's comprehension of formal Malay and Indonesian, as well as introduce writing in a guided and structures way. The introduction to the text contains advice on how to work with listening comprehension materials, and the first lesson includes a sample format for writing answers to the comprehension questions. The selections are recorded on four audio cassettes which accompany the book. The text of each recording is also included to enable students to wrok individually either in the classroom or at home.

Tingli: Chinese Listening Comprehension, Beginner and Intermediate is an interactive multimedia CD-ROM program designed for beginning and intermediate level Chinese learners produced by Catherine Jie Mei Yu and X. Jie Yang and published by the University of Calgary Press. The second of a three-part series of software, the Tingli program is claimed by the producers to be aimed at listening skills, including activities for developing and practicing listening comprehension.

The Talent Development Program Listening Comprehension 2000 Much is gained by small children who are read to regularly. Such children fare better as beginning readers, and they are more likely to enjoy language and reading. They learn early to appreciate the flexibility of language and its rhythms. They are intrigued by language and bring more positive attitudes to the task of learning to read than their counterparts who are not read to regularly when they are very young. Despite the fact that children who were not read to during their early years sometimes face certain disadvantages, they can still benefit from read aloud/think aloud experiences during adolescence. Being read to: * provides opportunities to hear fluent readers who can "bring print to life" * allows glimpses into the minds of fluent readers * removes roadblocks to comprehension (e.g., decoding, tracking) * reinforces understanding of basic literary elements * enables even poor readers to grasp sophisticated literary devices * improves listening skills Listening Comprehension is a component of Student Team Literature in which students are read to by a model reader their teacher for about twenty minutes in order to hear a fluent reader read and think aloud; strengthen

Abstracts Code List Japanese Language Interactive Online Reading, Listening Comprehension Project Theresa Savage, Val Clulow and Kay Salehi Swinburne University of Technology ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION Japanese language teaching began in 1970 at Swinburne University of Technology, before any commercially produced textbooks were readily available in Australia. Lecturers developed teaching materials at the same time as introducing Japanese into the curriculum. In the 1980s, a series of textbooks were completed. In 1993, Swinburne gained university status and the type of student attracted to study there changed to mainly full-time students who enter straight from high school rather than mature-age part time students. At the present time, the majority of students studying Japanese are Double Degree students doing a Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Arts (Japanese). The number of places for this Double Degree is limited and competitive. Consequently, students studying Japanese at present have high expectations of the course. At the same time, the university began demanding that all subjects contain some element of flexible delivery. The lecturing staff have been striving to improve subject delivery and content while inventing ways to become more flexible in learning methodology. In 1995, the Japanese staff used WinCALIS (Computer Assisted Language Instructional System for Windows), an authoring package, to produce grammar drill and reading comprehension exercises. The finished product is functional and enables students to get feedback on grammar practice and reading comprehension. The WinCALIS programs however, lack sound files, graphics or other engaging multimedia because of the demand of memory storage required in the student computer labs which would otherwise provide a more engaging interface.
