A song of the Backstreet Boys
for Listening comprehension
Arbeitsblatt:
Songtext : The Backstreet Boys : As long as you love me Although loneliness has always been a friend of mine I`m leaving my life in your hands. People say I`m crazy and that I am blind risking it all in a glance. How you got me blind is still a mystery I can`t get you out of my head. Don`t care what is written in your history as long as you`re here with me. CHORUS I don`t care who you are where you`re from What you did as long as you love me Who you are where you`re from Don`t care what you did as long as you love me. Every little thing that you have said and done feels like it`s deep within me. Doesn`t really matter if you`re on the run It seems like we`re meant to be. CHORUS Bridge I`ve tried to hide it so that no one knows but I guess it shows when you look into my eyes. What you did and where you`re coming from I don`t care, as long as you love me, baby.

Introduction
I have always been impressed with how much more native speakers hear in their own language than I do. The participants in a conversation, with nodding heads and animated faces, seem to process everything with ease. The outsider, even with advanced language training, struggles to keep up. For members of the culture, much is taken for granted and important communications take place without explicit linguistic reference. To the novice, the flow of speech seems continuous, with no clear indication of even the boundaries of meaningful elements. It seems there is not enough time to process the current input before the next utterance is presented to the ear. Part of the problem, in my opinion, is that materials for listening comprehension are often designed as if hearing were solely an acoustic phenomenon. With this understanding of the issue, producers of pedagogical materials take care to adhere to studio recording conditions. Their objective is to eliminate background noise and emphasize ideal pronunciation to reduce what is considered undesirable variation in input. In real life, of course, people talk at the same time, ambient noise masks speech sounds, and people do not pronounce words as consistently as the written language would lead us to believe. Missing acoustic signals are more than compensated for by situational and contextual elements in the speech event. Although acoustically enhanced recordings are extremely useful for establishing norms, they do not provide practice in dealing with the redundant signals of everyday, situational, listening comprehension.

Section 1 - Listening Comprehension
The Listening Comprehension section contains recorded material that is similar to what you might hear if you were with a group of North American students at a college or university. The language includes vocabulary and idiomatic expressions common to spoken English, as well as the special grammatical constructions used in speech. This section tests your comprehension of both short and long conversations and talks.

Listening comprehension skill
Introduction
Listening comprehension is the receptive skill in the oral mode. When we speak of listening what we really mean is listening and understanding what we hear. In our first language, we have all the skills and background knowledge we need to understand what we hear, so we probably aren't even aware of how complex a process it is. Here we will briefly describe some of what is involved in learning to understand what we hear in a second language. Listening Situations There are two kinds of listening situations in which we find ourselves:
  • interactive, and non-interactive.
Interactive listening situations include face-to-face conversations and telephone calls, in which we are alternately listening and speaking, and in which we have a chance to ask for clarification, repetition, or slower speech from our conversation partner. Some non-interactive listening situations are listening to the radio, TV, films, lectures, or sermons. In such situations we usually don't have the opportunity to ask for clarification, slower speech or repetition. Micro-skills Richards (1983, cited in
