Because of the changing nature of websites, click on the name of the professional society to link to the homepage of the society and browse yourself. If you use or manage a web site with activities that should be listed in the annotation, please let us know by contacting: tong@wisc.edu This page was originally developed by the Coalition for Education in the Life Sciences (CELS). CELS was a national coalition of professional societies in the biological sciences that have joined together in an effort to improve undergraduate education in the life sciences (1991-1998). Welcome to NSSDC's General Public Page! T HIS PAGE is intended to guide members of the general public to NASA/NSSDC data and services most likely to be of interest to the non-researcher/scientist segment of the internet community. Our Role T HE National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA) carries out its functions through several offices. NASA's Office of Space Sciences sponsors the National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC). NSSDC is primarily responsible for the archiving of space science data from past, present, and future NASA missions. We serve the science community and the general public in areas related to the space sciences (astrophysics and astronomy, solar physics, space plasma physics, lunar and planetary science). N SSDC is not intended as, nor is it, an encyclopedic source of information about NASA, its space activities, or space science in general. We provide data, and such information as we happen to have. There are many alternative sources of information about NASA, its activities, and space; several of these are identified below. Access to NSSDC's online WWW files, data, and information is free; nominal charges are made for dissemination of data on media, as, for instance, NSSDC's Planetary Images CD-ROM.

Alternative Routes to Quantitative Literacy for the Life Sciences - a project supported by the National Science Foundation through Award DUE-9752339 to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for August 1, 1998 - July 31, 2000
Principal Investigator: Louis J. Gross. Co-Principal Investigators: Beth C. Mullin and Susan E. Riechert
Collaborators: Otto J. Schwarz, Monica Beals, Susan Harrell
The objective of this project is to start the process of enhancing the quantitative components of many undergraduate life science courses by focusing on the general biology sequence taken by science students. The project efforts will illustrate to students the importance of a diversity of quantitative tools to analyze life science problems, emphasize the utility of quantitative methods across the spectrum of life sciences, serve to reduce the perception by students that math is only needed for math courses, and enhance students appreciation for the importance of theory in the scientific process. The objectives will be met through development of appropriate quantitative examples, based upon data and illustrating key biological concepts, for entry-level biology courses. Dissemination of results will proceed through publication of a Primer of Quantitative Biology and a variety of web-based products.
    Project Products:
A Poster providing an overview of the project results particularly as it relates to quantitative competency testing in general biology courses is:

Good Astronomy Activities on the World Wide Web
    printer-friendly version
This resource list includes a small selection of especially effective astronomy activities designed for K-12 classes and science projects. We focus on those activities that are either hands-on, or at least encourage students to think for themselves, and not merely follow a cookbook recipe or fill in a few blanks. Each listing has a brief summary and comments; note that these comments are the opinion of the list's compiler and are not the "official policy" of Project ASTRO or the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. Another person in astronomy education may have selected a different list of activities and may have had different things to say about them. Additions or suggestions for future editions of this list are most welcome. The Web is now a huge, and mostly unorganized, repository of information, and we make no claim that our list is complete. Instead, we simply hope that it can introduce you to the wide range of organizations and institutions that are working to put astronomy activities on the web, and to give you leads for activities that contain reasonable astronomy and emphasize hands-on, inquiry-based learning.

However, astrology would not be wasting time if it experimented with these ideas for a while. Astrologers might discover some most interesting and arresting problems and perhaps arrive at an accuracy which is at present unknown. It might be of some service if I enlarged somewhat upon this point: In connection with the sun sign, the rising sign and the effect of the thought-form relating to the moon, the position of esoteric astrology is as follows:
  • The sun sign. - This sign indicates the present problem of the man; it sets the pace or the established tempo of his personality life; it is related to quality, temperament and the life tendencies which are seeking expression during this particular incarnation, and it is suggestive of the rajasic or the activity aspect of the innate man. Fundamentally, the forces here found are indicative of the line of least resistance. The ascendant or rising sign indicates the intended life or immediate soul purpose for this incarnation.
