LIBRARY CONCEPTS AND SKILLS The purpose of teaching the Library Concepts and Skills is to support the LMC mission of providing a program which incorporates curriculum and technology to enable patrons to retrieve, evaluate, and utilize information, as well as to develop a love of reading and life-long learning. Library instruction is an ongoing, developmental process. No one grade level is ideal for the teaching of any particular skill. For this reason it is necessary for the teacher and library media specialist to be prepared to meet different levels of readiness. INTRODUCTION TO TEKS AND TA K S OBJECTIVES TA K S Texas utilizes the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TA K S) to evaluate minimum basic skills in reading, mathematics, writing , social studies, and science. TA K S tests represent a comprehensive assessment of the instructional targets delineated in the state-mandated curriculum and assess higher-order thinking skills and problem-solving ability. TEKS The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) were developed as a guideline for developing curriculum.

This is due to a number of causes: i.e., teachers are the ones that usually ask questions, the inversion of the auxiliary verb and subject can be especially tricky for many students. This simple lesson focuses specifically on the question form and helping students gain skill while switching tenses in the question form. Aim: Improving speaking confidence when using question forms Activity: Intensive auxiliary review followed by student gap question exercises.

Loertscher and Blanche Woolls Hi Willow Research and Publishing ISBN: 0-931510-80-5 The last major review of research on information literacy for school library media specialists was done by Christina Doyle in her 1994 monograph from ERIC titled Information Literacy in an Information Society. Now, the two authors have updated this critical area updating the Doyle work through March, 1999. Studies published in research journals, research retreats, both in the school library media field and in the larger field of education are included. The volume also includes studies done not only in th U.S. but in Canada, Australia, and in Great Britain. The authors not only review the research but offer numerous suggestions for translating that research into practice as school library media specialists educating young people. Designed for the serious practitioner and the researcher who wants to stay current.
