You know what's best for you. We are America's third largest political party and the only party working for everyone's liberty on every issue, every day. The Libertarian Party is unique in American politics, because it is a party created to spread and implement the political philosophy of libertarianism.
As a recognized County Committee, it is our goal to recruit and council candidates for local and state office, and to build the Libertarian party membership. It is the goal of the party t o elect public officials in sufficient numbers to effectively minimize the size and scope of government while maintaining its effectiveness in its essential roles of protecting individual life, liberty and property and expanding individual personal and economic liberty.

He spoke glowingly about the individual members who had supported the party over the last year, passing out certificates of merit to those who worked the Kern County Fair booth at Bakersfield and others who made the year so successful for the Libertarians that not only were the number of registered Libertarians increased from about 1207 to well over 1500 during the year. He also mentioned that the dues paying Members of the Libertarian Party had increased from 37 to 68. Greg Goodsall was elected to the office of Secretary and Ryan Gifford was re-elected Treasurer. Dr. Sheckler pointed out that the goal was to have more registered Libertarians, more registered Libertarians joing the state and national parties, and more Libertarians active in the operation of their party in Kern County. to this end the various members of the Board were directed to find ways to establish different committees based on finding more ways to bring Libertarianism to Kern County and the various cities, towns and taxing districts within it. Another goal is to have Libertarians run for every elective office within the country.

My Declaration of Independence from the Libertarian Party
July 18, 2000 To my friends, associates, and others in the libertarian movement: The time has come to end my 24-year association with the Libertarian Party of the United States and/or its affiliates. It has taken me the better part of a year to come to this decision, and it is not taken without trepidation. For the benefit of those who are curious as to my reasons, I will explain them now. I first learned about the Libertarian Party roughly a year after I discovered the writings of Ayn Rand. I was delighted to discover a political party which promoted the ideals of individual rights and responsibility which I had only recently claimed as my own. LP members introduced me to a wide variety of important libertarian writers, which gave me a broader and deeper understanding and appreciation for liberty. I was troubled to find that Rand herself rejected the LP, but as I disagreed with her on a few other points I also dismissed her objections to the LP's lack of an explicit philosophical base. As things developed, this may have been a mistake. I still cherish my memories of the first LP National Convention I attended, the one held in Los Angeles in 1979. I found a virtual Who's Who of the libertarian movement in attendance (at least at a speakers' panel or two if not in the business sessions proper), with discussions on a wide range of topics ranging from fundamental philosophy, to in-depth examinations of various issues, to the nuts-and-bolts of political campaigning. The atmosphere was freewheeling, fun, and revolutionary. I came away from that convention charged up and ready promote both the Party and its cause.

THE SATIRICAL POLITICAL BELIEFS ASSESSMENT TEST A Humorous Political Party Quiz to Test If You're an Archconservative, Leftwing Wacko, Antigovernment Libertine or a Commie Sympathizer by Donald J. Hagen Email: donaldjhagen@yahoo.com INTRODUCTION Political parties share much in common with obscenity. Both are difficult to define, yet, to paraphrase U.S. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart's definition of obscenity, you know a political party when you see it. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that some of the most obscene acts in our nation's history were allegedly the deliberate handiwork of some of the most honored and respected political parties in America. All Americans realize this, which is why becoming a member of the U.S. Supreme Court is such a grueling ordeal. This test, however, is a work of satire, not a history lesson. Consider all questions in this quiz as purely hypothetical situations, posed to discover your perception of reality, rather than actual reality. Through this test’s funny question and answer format you will unearth far deeper insights into your personal political persuasion than on those dry political party tests, which merely pose a dull array of boring questions to give you a rough estimate of whether you are a conservative or liberal. And rather than using the funny test formats used on all those popular online personality purity tests and quizzes, which merely poke fun of one political viewpoint, this test allows you see the humor in four political viewpoints at once!

Her philosophy and her fiction both emphasize above all the human individual and the genius he is capable of. Her novels were based upon the Randian hero, a man whose genius leads others to reject him, but who nonetheless perseveres to prove himself. Rand viewed this hero as the "ideal man" and made it the express goal of her literature to show these men.

Special Welcome to Log Cabin Libertarians
A special welcome to Log Cabin Libertarians, in particular to ex-members of the Log Cabin Republicans and similar people who have discovered that their former political party is no longer a suitable home. To be to the point, I am straight, but not narrow. I am not by faith or ancestry a Jew. When I say that President Bush's Constitutional Amendment discriminates against gays (and a long list of others), it is not my ox being gored. And when I note that America's largest branch of Judaism and many branches of Christianity, though not President Bush's, view marriage between gays as valid, I am bearing witness that President Bush proposes to use the Federal Constitution to persecute religious minorities. It is sad that the Republican Party wishes to enshrine in our Constitution a piece of Anti-Semitic (for some Jews), Anti-Christian (for some Christians) Gay-bashing, but it is true. Our country was in fair part founded by the likes of the Pilgrims, the Quakers, and the Mennonites, people who came to America to flee religious and other persecution. Now the Republicans want to enshrine religious persecution in the Federal Constitution, which is an act as utterly false to our traditions as can be imagined. I do not propose to run a big organization 'Log Cabin Libertarians' myself. However, sometimes to find the people who will salute an idea, you need to run it up the flagpole. If you are interested in joining, I can be reached at phillies@4liberty.net. I am looking for volunteers. To read about the political party that rejects George Bush's Amendment, go to

Introduction to the Libertarian Party

What is Libertarianism?
Libertarianism is a political philosphy. The term "libertarian" dates at least as far back as 1789, arising from the turbulence of both the American and French revolutions. There are probably as many "strict" definitions of the term as there are libertarians. But in general, libertarians combine the strong defense of individual civil liberties, due process, social tolerance (religous, lifestyle choices, etc.), open immigration, and nonconformity espoused by modern day "liberals" with an equally strong defense of free markets, private property, free trade, radically reduced government and international noninterventionism often espoused by conservatives. In the World's Smallest Political Quiz you can begin to see how this combination arises. The traditional left-right axis between liberal and conservative covers only part of the picture. Essentially both sides want government involved in a good deal of a priavte citizen's life, it's only a question of where. Liberals tend to favor government intervention and planning in economic matters, but leave social issues up to the individual. Conservatives tend to favor government direction of social issues, personal behavior, and "tough on crime" civil liberties intrusions, but leave economics to the private sector. Where does that leave people who want "free speech" AND "less taxes"? Or people who dislike both?

THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY
PARTY OVERVIEW The Libertarian Party is America's third largest political party. To put their position in a nutshell, "Libertarians believe the answer to America's political problems is the same commitment to freedom that earned America its greatness: a free-market economy and the abundance and prosperity it brings; a dedication to civil liberties and personal freedom that marks this country above all others; and a foreign policy of non-intervention, peace, and free trade as prescribed by America's founders." The party was founded in Colorado in 1971 by a small group of activists who wanted to create an alternative to the two ageing political parties. They have grown rapidly and are now seeing success in state and local elections, but have yet to make a significant mark in the presidential election.

News Quotes by Aaron Russo:
The privately owned Federal Reserve Bank is the root cause of America’s unemployment problem…they have destroyed the value of the American currency, raising the cost of living so high that American workers no longer compete…when you buy a house for one hundred thousand dollars and sell it for two hundred thousand dollars the value of the house did not go up, the value of the dollar went down, because it takes more dollars to buy the same house….It is time to install a sound money system so the cost of living stays the same from year to year.
When you hear the words, "New World Order," "One World Order," "globalization," and "One World Government," … put on your running shoes and get away as quickly as you can. Those are the buzzwords for slavery.
I will stop the Federal Government from denying people the use of medical marijuana.
The greatest scandal in the history of America is presently being perpetrated by the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank; it makes the Enron, WorldCom, and Tyco scandals look infantile by comparison.
When I am sworn into office as President of the United States, and I swear an "Oath to the Constitution," you better believe that I BELIEVE in that oath.

Recent Entries September 03, 2003 My First Political Party! So I went to the September Business Meeting of the Travis County Libertarian Party , the first time I've ever made the effort to get this close to political activism. I made the decision to do this after finally choosing to act upon a message from the Austin Liberator e-mail list. The message promoted the next event in the Distinguished Speaker Series : Ed Clark from Austin Energy , who'll be speaking about deregulation, the California energy mess, the recent northeast blackout, and other things. After calling Rick McGinnis (a very friendly guy) to confirm a slot, I figured I should check out the TCLP and get a personal feel for the people there. They usually meet at the Old Quarry Library on 7501 Village Center Drive off Far West Blvd from 6:45pm till 8. I screwed up and didn't find the place in time back last year when I resolved to check them out, but I got there early and made it fine tonight. The atmosphere was relaxed and mostly productive. Patrick Dixon, the TCLP Chair, got things moving. Having the attitude I have towards formal organizations, it took me a bit to adjust to the format of the proceedings. Recognizings, reports, agendas, minutes, and all that. I apparently picked a good night to drop by, as several folks mentioned attendance was the highest they'd seen in some time.
