He Helped Investigate Watergate Daniel K. Inouye was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, later upgraded to a Medal of Honor, for his bravery as a member of the famed "Go For Broke" 442nd Regimental Combat Unit during World War II. Inouye.went to Washington in 1959, as the new state of Hawaii's first congressman, and never left. Elected to the Senate in 1962, Inouye attracted national attention as a member of the committee investigating the Watergate scandal that forced President Richard Nixon from office. "When Richard Nixon left Washington, there were no tanks in our streets, no uniformed men with submachine guns walking patrol. He left, a new person came in, and that was it," he recalled. "That moment made me a very, very proud American." American Stories are adapted from an interactive exhibit at the National Constitution Center that features the stories of 100 people whose lives, for better and for worse, illustrate principles of American constitutionalism.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Sadly, my website was hacked into and the entire site was deleted. It will take me some time to get everything back online (as a mom, coach, teacher, I just can't find the time to do it all at once).
