, by Andrée Côté, Diana Majury, Elizabeth Sheehy, April 2000; 47p. Member:$9.25 / Non-member:$12.75
ISBN:0-895996-55-4
In this brief the authors use the egalitarian framework to argue for the abolition of the defence of provocation, because of its sexist, homophobic, racist and patriarchal ramifications. NAWL calls specifically for the repeal of the mandatory life sentence for murder, as well as the repeal of the new mandatory minimum sentence of four years imprisonment for those who use a firearm in the commission of a number of specific offences, including manslaughter.
Discriminatory Uses of Personal Records in Sexual Violence Cases , by Karen Busby, January 1996; 27p. Member:$5.50 / Non-member:$7.50
ISBN:0-895996-19-8
The paper is designed to be of use to women in sexual assault centres who are likely to be faced with subpoenas to produce personal records. It also gives a useful summary of the two SCC cases that represent the current law on the issue.

Each technique presented in this manual has been tested in actual groups and refined for inclusion. The authors provide case studies and exercises to stimulate active participation by group members. Topics covered include defining abuse, creating trusting relationships, giving and receiving respect, taking responsibility for actions, and creating effective communication.
