LEAT has been in the forefront in promoting Community Based Natural Resources Management (CBNRM) in Tanzania. Bulyanhulu Gold Mine LEAT represents a group of small-scale miners that were forcibly evicted from their mines in 1996 to make way for development by the Kahama Mining Corporation, Ltd., a subsidiary of a Canadian company. LEAT has called on the Tanzanian government to allow an independent international investigation of alleged human rights abuses during the eviction. Branches LEAT Mwanza Branch LEAT has been in the forefront to prevent urban pollution. Measures that LEAT has been engaged on include awareness raising, publications and litigation. The campaign to prevent urban pollution is carried in both LEAT headquarters and the Mwanza branch. Introduction Many legal questions from teachers center around the topic of liability. The obligation or responsibility of teachers is determined through a combination of legislation, regulation, common law and school board policy or by-laws. Where teachers have not fulfilled their obligations properly, and when that action has resulted specifically in injury to a student, the question of liability is always a concern. School boards in Newfoundland and Labrador have an insurance policy to protect teachers against the financial implications of such liability suits. Liability Teachers can be held liable if they have been involved in: (a) an imprudent or negligent act, (b) imprudent or negligent supervision of a school-sponsored activity inside or outside the classroom, or (c) have knowledge of faulty equipment and imprudently fail to advise school authorities.
