Jewish movements, often referred to as denominations, branches or sects of Judaism, differ from each other in some beliefs and thus in the way they observe Judaism. Differences between the movements, in contrast to differences between Christian denominations, derive from interpreting Jewish scriptures in more progressive/liberal or more traditional/conservative ways rather then from theological differences.
  • Reconstructionist Judaism
Reconstructionists believe that Judaism is an "evolving religious civilization." In one way it is more liberal than Reform Judaism - the movement does not believe in a personified deity that is active in history and does not believe that God chose the Jewish people. In another way Reconstructionist Judaism is less liberal than Reform Judaism - Reconstructionists observe halakhah Jewish Law) if they choose to, not because it is a binding Law from G-d, but because it is a valuable cultural remnant.

Presidency (in Spanish) Government of Venezuela National Assembly (in Spanish) Under the 1999 Constitution, the President of Venezuela is elected by a plurality vote with direct and universal suffrage. The term of office is 6 years, and a president may be re-elected to a single consecutive term. The President appoints the Vice President. He decides the size and composition of the cabinet and makes appointments to it with the involvement of the National Assembly. Legislation can be initiated by the executive branch, the legislative branch (either a committee of the National Assembly or three members of the latter), the judicial branch, the citizen branch (ombudsman, public prosecutor, and controller general) or a public petition signed by no fewer than 0.1% of registered voters. The President can ask the National Assembly to reconsider portions of laws he finds objectionable, but a simple majority of the Assembly can override these objections. The National Assembly is unicameral, consisting solely of the Chamber of Deputies. Deputies serve 5-year terms, and may be re-elected for a maximum of two additional terms. These legislative agents are elected by a combination of party list and single member constituencies. When the Congress is not in session, its delegated committee acts on matters relating to the executive and in oversight functions.

    FOR PARENTS OF GAY CHILDREN
    Can We Understand?
THE INITIAL SHOCK When You First Find Out
It is often a shock for parents to find out that their child is homosexual. Whether you are a mother or a father, whether you have a son or a daughter, whether you long suspected something of the kind, or were completely surprised, finding out for sure can be a shock. The feelings that shake you are very strong and confusing. You may hardly be able to talk about it at first without tears and anger. Every family is different and every case individual: one parent may find out by chance, another may be told face-to-face, a third may receive a phone call or a letter; the child may be a teenager or an adult, self-accepting or upset with what he or she is; parents may be ready to listen, or react by drawing back. For all, however, there are some underlying concerns and questions: COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS Parents Usually Want to Know: Q. Why did he or she have to tell us? A. Many parents think that they would be happier if they didn't know. What you must realize, however, is that if you did not know, you would never really know your child. A large part of his or her life would be kept secret from you, and you would never really know the whole human being. The fact that your son or daughter told you is a sign of his or her love and need for your support and understanding. After all, who should know if not you? No other minority is asked to hide from their own parents what makes them "different"!

    Mel's Comments:
Perhaps the most unfortunate consequence of our failure to pass comprehensive health care reform several years ago was the fact that 10 million children were left without health care. In his State of the Union Address, President Clinton pledged to address this sad state of affairs. However, the budget agreement negotiated by the President and the Republican leadership provides health care for only half of these 10 million children. Clearly, we could do better. In fact, several of the budget alternatives offered on the House floor during consideration of the budget agreement would have guaranteed health care coverage to all these children. Unfortunately, each of these alternatives was defeated. Of the 10 million U.S. children with no health care coverage, more than 228,000 live in North Carolina. More than 90 percent of them are from families with two working parents. Their parents earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but too little to afford health insurance coverage for their children. The costs of not providing health care to these children are tremendous. Because they are not immunized and do not receive prevcentive care, they are far more likely to need high cost emergency care and longer term, more expensive medical care and treatment. Each dollar invested to imunize a child saves $10 in costs for hospitalizations and other treatment. One day of neonatal, intensive hospital care costs more than nine months of prenatal care.

They are the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch. What is the Judiciary? The Judiciary is your court system. We have three levels of courts in Arkansas: Appellate Courts which are the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals - appeals from Circuit court go to these Courts Circuit Courts which hear civil, criminal, juvenile, domesti c relations (divorce, child custody) and probate (wills, adoptions, guardianships) District Courts first hearings of serious criminal cases, and civil cases in matters of less than $5,000. A small claims division of district court provides a place where citizens can take care of matters themselves (without an attorney) to resolve civil matters under $5,000.

Where did the STEPHENS surname originate? Many have claimed it to be English, Irish, German, and Norman. It is said to derived from the Greek word "Stephanos", meaning "a crown, wreath, or garland." Which is true? Apparently all are to some degree, but through the research of many, including Jim Stephens of Gilbert, Arizona, I would like to offer a brief history lesson regarding the STEPHENS origin. It is believed that the family took the name from St. Stephen, the martyr. It has taken on various spellings, depending on the region and the one doing the transcribing. ~In Normandy it became FITZ-STEPHEN, "Fitz" meaning the son of. Or ESTIENNE, which is apparently the French version of the name. ~In English it was also FITZ-STEPHEN, but later the FITZ was dropped and it became STEPHENSON, which still meant "the son of STEPHEN". And later still the "on" was dropped, making it STEPHENS, in which the "s" still referred to "the son of". ~In Ireland, the name STEVENS and STEPHENS is believed to be derived from the native Gaelic Mac Giolla Stiofain Sept. It was also brought to the country by settlers especially during the 16th century. Other descendants may derive from the Norman FITZSTEPHEN families.

Although the 2002 April “Request for Proposals” (RFP) document [See also Friends of the Zeiss reply to RFP and preservation proposal ] , issued by the City, stated that the winning applicant would receive lease agreements for the four historic artifacts, the City negotiated three “Memoranda of Understanding” with the Science Center , for the three artifacts moved to the Science Center ’s warehouse. Founded in 1975 as a non-profit legal service, Juvenile Law Center (JLC) is one of the oldest children's rights organizations in the United States.
JLC has always maintained a core mission of protecting and advancing children's rights.
We do this by ensuring that children are treated fairly by systems that are supposed to help them, and that children receive the treatment and services that these systems are supposed to provide. We believe that justice can be promoted by procedural safeguards, which help ensure that decisions about children are better informed, more accurate and most appropriate. We are particularly concerned that the juvenile justice and child welfare systems be used only when necessary, and that children who are served by those systems receive adequate education, and physical and mental health care. JLC's staff attorneys concentrate their efforts to protect children while reforming the systems meant to serve them, by engaging in the following efforts:
