CHILD SUPPORT RESOURCES ON THE WEB
Many individuals have started to contact our office regarding actions pending in another state. Unfortunately, each state has their own rules about collection of child support, and you may need to speak to an attorney licensed in that state. An attorney licensed only in California, or New York, or Florida, can only answer questions regarding the law in the state they are licensed, and unfortunately, there is no simple answer since each state is free to make up their own rules for enforcement. Also, part of the requirements of the bar in each individual state is a rule that an attorney licensed in one state shall not give legal advise regarding the laws of another state unless they are licensed in that state. An attorney can be sanctioned by their own bar for failure to follow these ethical rules. So, if your matter is pending in some other state, take advantage of the research we have done. Contact one of the attorney referral services listed below, or nationwide organizations listed. Do not contact us, because you will most likely get a response that reiterates the bar rules of the state of California. The following is a list of resources we have found on the web for further information, and it is not intended to be exhaustive, nor does the listing serve as an endorsement of their views or reliability of the legal information included. These are being posted for the hundreds of people who call or email each month about a case somewhere outside of California, or for those people who cannot afford the services of an attorney or for those who are just simply interested in learning more. This site will be updated quarterly, and if anyone has any suggestions or comments about a site, or wants to include some other site that we missed, please feel free to email us with the information.

Legal Coaches: Getting Affordable Help From Lawyers
by Paul Bergman and Sara Berman-Barrett
Even if it does not make economic sense for you to turn your entire case over to an attorney, consulting a lawyer along the way may be a big help. You may want to hire one on an hourly basis as a legal coach to give you occasional advice, but not to actually represent you. Instead of turning your case over to the lawyer, you payusually by the hourfor limited help and advice. This arrangement can be an affordable way to get the help you need. Your legal coach may simplify your legal research, suggest evidence you should look for to prove your legal claims, explain a confusing rule of evidence, inform you of deadlines, alert you to courtroom procedures peculiar to your local court system or suggest ways of making your arguments more persuasive. Traditionally, attorneys have either taken on overall responsibility for a client's case or declined to get involved. And many lawyers will not go for the legal coach arrangement, because they do not want to get involved in what they see as the messy world of self-representation or risk being legally liable if you make a mistake.

The Clinical Legal Education Program of NCCU Law is committed to producing excellent attorneys who are sensitive to addressing the needs of people and communities that are traditionally underserved and underrepresented by the legal profession. Through a diverse body of clinical courses, we offer students and opportunity to pursue justice in a variety of legal disciplines. We teach students to respect the legal process and the dignity of every client, regardless of their station in life. We believe that sensitizing future lawyers to the importance of serving these clients advances fairness and equity in the justice system, founding principles of NCCU Law. Currently, NCCU offers six clinical programs. They are: Alternative Dispute Resolution Clinic
Supervised by Attorney Pamela S. Glean, and Attorney Mark W. Morris In 1999 the emerging influence of mediation in the court system served as the impetus for NCCU Law to initiate the development of the first clinical program for training law students in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in North Carolina. Launched in the spring semester of 2000, the ADR Clinic provides future lawyers with hands-on experience in the art of mediation, often resulting in a faster, less expensive and more satisfactory resolution to a legal issue for a client and the court system. The ADR Clinic, a one-semester program, provides students with the 40-hour training required of superior court mediators and places them to district criminal court in Wake and Durham Counties to apply the collaborative, peacemaking and listening skills they have learned. The ADR Clinic first matches students with experienced mediators from Carolina Dispute Settlement Services, a local community mediation center, to observe and co-mediate; soon students become the lead mediators. On average each student handles at least six cases, which may include assault, communicating threats, larceny, trespassing and domestic violence. Other legal cases that students may mediate include divorce cases, personal injury claims, and intellectual property. Students also learn other alternatives to litigation when they observe District Court Arbitration and attend Drug Treatment Court.

You Absolutely Have the Right to Represent Yourself in a Divorce Matter
There is no question about it, each person has the right to represent him or herself pro se litigant in a matrimonial matter in the State of New Jersey. In fact, there are many books on the subject of representing oneself in a Court of Law and forgoing the use of attorneys. In the last decade there has been a trend toward people representing themselves and employing services such as the divorce centers. These particular centers advertise themselves as a low cost alternative to a simple divorce in the State of New Jersey. This may come as a shock to many readers, but I recommend that a person use either the services of a "divorce center" type of business or represent themselves ONLY IF the issues of the case are either incredibly simple or of little or no consequence whatsoever. This becomes apparent in an extremely short term marriage where there is no debt, no assets, no children and no issues of alimony. It is in those particular circumstances, and those circumstances only , where, in my opinion, it would be appropriate for a person to represent him or herself in a divorce action.

Legal Awareness Program
A Project of the FEW Think Tank Committee
Dear FEW Members: It is our pleasure to announce that the FEW Legal Awareness Pilot Project has now been expanded to all FEW members worldwide! FEW has long been aware that female federal employees have questions about their experiences in the workplace - questions that require sound and timely legal advice. While FEW officers and staff members are usually available to listen to federal employees who are experiencing problems with sexual harassment, employment discrimination, or other workplace challenges, the organization had not previously had the resources to provide the level of technical guidance that is necessary in developing a strategic response to such dilemmas. That is not until now! FEW was founded in 1968 to end sex discrimination and sexual harassment in the federal service. While female workers have made great strides to challenge these barriers in order to gain a strong foothold at all levels of government service, discrimination and harassment are still alive and well today. Rather than deal with these challenges as individuals, FEW has worked to collectively develop strategies to ensure that the federal workplace provides an environment which is conducive to encouraging success at every career stage. This discussion contains all of the information you will need to take advantage of the FEW Legal Awareness Program. Read it, print it, and put it in a safe place. While we hope that you will never face the challenges posed by discrimination or harassment, rest assured that you will have access to information and support via Federally Employed Women!

    Applying for a judicial separation
If you and your spouse in Ireland have separated or wish to separate and you cannot agree on certain matters, you may wish to apply to the court for a judicial separation . When you apply for a judicial separation, the court will decide the issues that you cannot agree on, for example, custody of the children, who will live in or own the family home maintenance and child support. To apply for a judicial separation, you are not legally required to use a solicitor or a barrister . In fact, you are free to represent yourself if you wish. However, there are many complex issues such as custody of and access to children , maintenance, tax and property law, which may make it very difficult to apply for a judicial separation without any professional help. If you and your spouse disagree about any issue at all, it is strongly advised that you go to see a family law solicitor. Your solicitor should not be the same one as your spouse's.

    Advanced Briefing Issues
By this time you are well into the briefing process, have begun to focus on the "legal" aspects of the cases, and have already begun that nebulous process of thinking like a law student. You "speak" in terms of "legal obligations", "promises", "subjective and objective manifestations of intent." And, if you are blessed, your friends, parents, and significant others are still speaking to you despite your odd and sometimes annoying behavior. To assist in continued communication between you and the rest of the non-law school world AND to continue your development as a lawyer (v. law student), consider adding these additional comments to your briefs.

    Contextual Summarizing Paragraph
This paragraph is best drafted after you have briefed the case. It should include:
