In fact, if you know where to find them, these articles can save many hours of legal research. Unfortunately, there is currently no digest of legal articles on the Internet to aid you in your search. Search engines which include the entire World Wide Web are often too inclusive when searching for legal analysis on a computer or Internet related topic. Minimum legal drinking age (MLDA) laws prohibit the consumption of alcohol by persons under the age of 21 and, in all states, the sale of alcohol to persons under 21. Alcohol is readily available to underage people through licensed alcohol outlets because merchant compliance with minimum drinking age laws is generally lax:
  • underage buyers were able to buy alcohol in 97% of purchase attempts in Washington, DC, 82% of attempts in Westchester County, NY, 44% of attempts in Schenectady, NY (Preusser et al. 992), and 59% of attempts in northwestern New Jersey (O'Leary et a
  • for every 100,000 occasions of youth drinking only five alcohol outlets incur actions by a state Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) agency (Wagenaar and Wolfson 1994) for every thousand arrests of 16-20-year-olds for underage possession of alcohol:
only 130 alcohol outlets have any action taken against them only 88 adults are arrested for furnishing alcohol to a minor (Wagenaar and Wolfson 1994)
Minimum legal drinking age (MLDA) laws have proven effective in reducing alcohol-related injuries among youth despite minimal enforcement efforts:
    • fatal single vehicle nighttime crashes (used as a proxy measure of fatal alcohol-involved crashes) among youth under age 21 decreased 13.2% as a result of the rise in the MLDA (O'Malley and Wagenaar 1991)

EEOC Issues Regulations on Releases/Waivers of Age Discrimination Claims
Waivers of age claims are sought in various contexts, including when an employee age 40 or older is involved in a reduction in force. In exchange for the receipt of a severance package, protected-age employees are often required to sign a release agreement waiving all work-related legal claims, including claims of age discrimination.

In general, children who are less than 18 years of age and have at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen whether by birth or naturalization-will benefit from this new law. Under the law, qualifying children who immigrate to the United States with a U.S. citizen parent automatically acquire U.S. citizenship; children who live abroad acquire citizenship by application. INS will work with Congress, the adoption community and other stakeholders to re-engineer and streamline the current process for obtaining a Certificate of Citizenship for a child. However, if you wish to obtain a Certificate of Citizenship for your child at this time, the process is explained below. In addition, you may obtain a passport for your child from the Department of State.

Since adoption is a creature of State law, the answers usually can be found in State statutes, agency regulations, and court opinions. Federal statutory and constitutional law also play a part, in such areas as adoption subsidies, adoption of Native American children, and rights of unwed or "putative" fathers. While the overall adoption scheme is similar in all States, the fine points frequently differ. This introduction outlines the legal foundation of adoption, describing who can adopt and be adopted, the adoption legal process, and the rules of confidentiality. In addition, it discusses a range of State law variations. For a more complete description of the adoption process in a particular State, see the State-by-State adoption law guides that follow.

Escort agencies are favorite targets of vice units across the country. Regular raids and sting operations occur in cities across the United States, with cops posing as customers intent on testing the boundaries that various escorts may or may not be willing to cross during their hour long companionship interludes. By flashing enough cold, hard cash, law enforcement officers often successfully tempt escorts into engaging in, or agreeing to engage in, some form of sexual activity in exchange for money.

Significant Points
  • Formal educational requirements for lawyers include a 4-year college degree, 3 years in law school, and the passing of a written bar examination. Competition for admission to most law schools is intense. Demand for lawyers will be spurred by the growth of legal action in such areas as health care, intellectual property, international law, elder law, environmental law, and sexual harassment.
Nature of the Work About this section Back to Top The legal system affects nearly every aspect of our society, from buying a home to crossing the street. Lawyers form the backbone of this vital system, linking it to society in myriad ways. For that reason, they hold positions of great responsibility and are obligated to adhere to a strict code of ethics. Lawyers , also called attorneys , act as both advocates and advisors in our society. As advocates, they represent one of the parties in criminal and civil trials by presenting evidence and arguing in court to support their client. As advisors, lawyers counsel their clients concerning their legal rights and obligations and suggest particular courses of action in business and personal matters. Whether acting as an advocate or an advisor, all attorneys research the intent of laws and judicial decisions and apply the law to the specific circumstances faced by their client.

A trademark is generally a name (although it could also be an image, a sound or other things) used to identify goods or services. The law recognizes at least two purposes to trademarks: to identify everything purveyed under that mark as from the same source, and to prevent others from using the trademark owner's "good will" by labeling their own goods with the same mark.
