Introduction
Participants will be working through a variety of centers in their grade/subject level to experience how a thematic unit with integrated technology might work in their classrooms. There are three different segments for this lesson. The leader may use any or all of the segments for a one day workshop depending on their groups interests and abilities. Since our groups are composed of participants from all levels of instruction, you could run the three segments simultaneously for one workshop or divide the segments into more than one workshop.

84. CIVITAS: Lesson Plan
The first could be a general discussion, led by the teacher, about current lesson one Current views Are there any languages which do not have words for marriage
http://www.civitas.org.uk/hwu/lesson.htm
The Facts Behind
COHABITATION Lesson Notes Topic: Marriage and its alternatives To the teacher:
'The Facts Behind Cohabitation' sheet will be useful for teaching about marriage and other relationships in PSHE, Religious Studies, or other courses - wherever actual facts about cohabitation are required. The lesson plans outlined below are merely suggestions. Teachers know their own pupils and their own courses best. Teachers should consider the age, type, and number of pupils in the class when deciding how to discuss the information in the fact sheet and related issues. Some pupils might benefit from using a board or overhead projector to facilitate the discussion. N.B. Care and sensitivity is needed. Good teachers may be able to let pupils talk about those that they know, but care is needed if children start talking about their own parents or family members. It is better to break this off by some such phrase as 'We don't want to judge individual cases of people who are not here to speak for themselves.' However, this need for sensitivity is not a reason for avoiding giving the facts about cohabitation. We do not refuse to deal with racism or smoking because the parents of some of our children might be racist or smokers. The main advantage of the fact sheet is just that: it deals with facts and not opinions. Download Lesson Notes in Adobe pdf format.

The Great American Smokeout: Anti-Smoking Activities 'Permeate' the Curriculum
The Great American Smokeout is a great time to get out the message: Smoking kills! Included: A "pack" of activities to drive home the anti-smoking message and a "carton" of anti-smoking Internet sites to visit! Every day, several thousand adolescents in the United States light up their first cigarette, according to statistics compiled by the American Cancer Society. That means that more than a million kids will start smoking this year! A third of those new smokers will eventually die of tobacco-related diseases. The statistics are staggering. They highlight the need for tobacco education at every grade level in every school. "No one's kids are safe from the resurgence in smoking," warns University of Michigan social psychologist Lloyd Johnston. "All parents should be concerned and alerted." There there is no better time than right now just in time for the Great American Smokeout to begin the teaching! Below, you'll find a bunch of
