Camiling, BSE, MA About fifty years after the arrival and death of Ferdinand Magellan in the Philippines, the Spanish conquistadores heard of the Kapampangan progressive civilization when their conquest of the Maynilad (Manila) and Tondo kingdoms was practically accomplished. These Spaniards in their search for food, spices and other forms of wealth, came upon the Kapampangan people with a rich culture, traditions, arts and an alphabet of their own. The Kapampangans were described then to be the most warlike and prominent ethnic group in the Philippines. To defend themselves from Spanish invasion and from other invaders, Kapampangans fortified the mouths of the rivers leading to their territories. Their arsenal included bows and arrows, spears, swords, shields and cannons made by local blacksmiths such as the famous Pande Pira and his sons of Apalit. Their land and body of waters were then the most productive in the Philippine archipelago. Because of what they were, Kapampangans were treated differently from the rest of the Philippine people. Kapampangans, particularly the principalia, were accorded with privileges and some sort of exemptions from taxation. Hispanization of the Kapampangan region had its historic commencement on December 11, 1571 when it was founded as a province

Mission of the
The Department of Language and Culture (DLC) provides quality English as a second language and Spanish language literacy and numeracy education for students in Spanish/English Bilingual Programs and quality English language literacy and numeracy education for English Language Learners (ELLs) whose literacy and numeracy competencies are not developed in English. We support parental choice in educational programming for ELLs, offering the following choices: dual language program (Spanish/English), transitional bilingual programs (Spanish/English), and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. The program models support the efforts to accelerate ELLs into general education programs. All programs offered by The Department of Language and Culture parallel general education programs in the Providence Public Schools in both breadth and depth. The University of Pittsburgh's Principles of Learning provide the context for all instruction. As articulated in the Language Instruction for Transition (LIFT) Framework for Teaching and Learning, the ESL standards are aligned with The New Standards English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Applied Learning Standards, as well as with the TESOL standards.

Outline of the programme return to top Through its School Visit Programme, the Consulate-General of Japan in Auckland aims to provide opportunities for New Zealand school students to learn more about Japan. A school visit by staff from the Consulatefs Public Relations Section can further studentsf knowledge of the language and culture of Japan. Japanese language need not necessarily be part of the curriculum, however, as the Consulate also visits schools covering Japan as a general topic. The Consulate has a variety of traditional artifacts, posters, slides and videos designed to give students a vivid impression of life in Japan. When planning a school visit, Consulate staff members consult with teachers to decide on suitable topics for the visit, so that it can be tailored to their requirements as much as possible. The content of a school visit may be designed to consolidate work that students have done already in class or to act as a catalyst for a new area of study.

General Information K-State's Group Study Abroad Program allows students and faculty to travel in an educational setting at the lowest possible cost by traveling during times when classes are not in session, by securing group rates and by arranging student accommodation. Most program costs typically include:
  • Airfare from Kansas City International airport Ground transportation in the destination country Lodging and some meals Entrance fees for museums, plays, and other planned activities KSU tuition fees
Program costs typically do not include:
  • Personal expenses and travel Passport and visa fees Medical insurance International student ID card. The international student ID card is requested for many programs. The international student ID card is available at Union Program Council, KSU Union, 3rd floor. Student Financial Aid may be applied toward Group Study Abroad Programs.

The Program in World Literature and Culture Studies is dedicated to the study of literature and cultures in a broad interlingual, intercultural and interdisciplinary framework. World Literature and Culture Studies introduces students to

The study of different texts and cultures will enrich and enhance students understanding of their own as well as of other cultures.
