Export of petroleum resumed within a year and kuwait s economy is rebounding from the disaster. Exit geography From Space 97 ©1997 National Air and Space

Kuwait is bordered by Iraq to the north and west, Saudi Arabia to the south, and the Persian Gulf to the east. Due to a lack of arable land for agriculture, Kuwait's premium natural resource is its crude oil (10% of the world reserves). Petroleum accounts for 90% of Kuwait's export revenue and 70% of the government's income. The Answer:

At the close of the Gulf War in 1991, Iraqi troops set fire to hundreds of oil wells as they retreated from Kuwait. The intensely hot fires were visible from space. This daytime view taken in the spring of 1991 by astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle shows thick trails of black smoke rising up to 4900 meters (16,000 feet) into the sky. The capital, Kuwait City, lies just south of the two large smoke trails at top. Crews of firefighters from several nations worked for almost a year to put out the fires. The last fire was ceremonially extinguished by the Emir of Kuwait on November 6, 1991. Export of petroleum resumed within a year and Kuwait's economy is rebounding from the disaster.

Although damage to the infrastructure was extensive following the Iraqi invasion of 1990 and the subsequent counter-offensive, much has been reconstructed. Today, Kuwait has the second highest per-capita Gross Domestic Product in the Persian Gulf region (Table 13). Telecommunications infrastructure was a high priority, and today Kuwait has a fully-restored, world-class system. The addition of Internet service appears to have been a natural extension of the modern telecommunications services already offered by the Ministry of Communications, and there is little evidence of there having been significant concerns regarding the introduction of public services.

    Abstract
This paper looks at France, one of the leading Western industrial democracies with an economy and population similar to those of Great Britain and Italy. It discusses the history of the country with an emphasis on the changing face of its politics over the years. Outline Introduction History Modern French Politics Contemporary Political Issues Conclusion
    From the Paper:
"Around the year 800, most of Western Europe was united under the Frankish king Charlemagne. His kingdom was divided among his grandsons, and the western part became France. By medieval standards, however, France was vast and diverse, and forging it into a single country took centuries. Indeed, strong regional sentiments persist just below the surface in outlying areas such as Brittany and Provence."
