Gore Vidal
Born 3rd. October, 1925, in West Point, New York.
US novelist, essayist, and polemicist. Full name: Eugene Luther Gore Vidal Jr. He was born in the Cadet Hospital at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, where his father, Gene Vidal, was an aeronautics instructor. His father was a fearless aviator and a sporting hero. His mother Nina, had a number of affairs and was fond of drink. Gore Vidal spent much of his childhood in Washington with his blind grandfather Senator Thomas Pryor Gore of Oklahoma. Gene and Nina Vidal divorced in 1935. Nina Vidal married Hugh Auchincloss, and hence Gore Vidal acquired a stepfather in common with Jacqueline Kennedy. Gore Vidal was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy but was a mediocre student. He fell in love with a fellow pupil, Jimmie Trimble, who was later killed in action in 1945. In 1943 Gore Vidal joined the United States Army Reserve Corps and served on army transports in the Aleutian Islands in World War II. Army life gave him material for his first novel

Angora yarns hand spun and processed by the ladies of a Spinning Coop, living at a rural village in a cool lush rainy mountain valley, in southern Chile. Hand made from the longest fibers of their own breed of angora rabbits. Handspun yarn flows through your hands and feels alive. The warmth and ability to breathe inherent in natural fibers that are not machine spun, becomes apparent with the first stitch, and you know the finished garment will be cherished for generations. Handspun is like fine, aged wine from the winemaker's reserve, an original oil painting, a bouquet of fresh flowers. It's just sumptuous! Once you use handspun, you will want to frequently use materials produced with the same care and creative energy that you use in your knitting. Single jersey or more elaborated stitch, all is perfect for nice simple sweaters or scarves, fully fashionable looking, or in very sophisticated evening jackets and cardigans. We offer a variety of colors for your knitting fantasy.

The imprint knitting pattern webring is intended as a promotional tool for authors of hand and machine knitting patterns and content who sell their work directly to the consumer. By now, I think it's pretty obvious that there's a new sort of dot com bubble that has been expanding over the past couple of years. In addition to the knitting entrepreneurs who have been teaching and publishing their own newsletters and patterns for years, and selling them the "old-fashioned," mail order way, there's a crop of new designers and publishers who have figured that the Internet has provided a convenient vehicle for distributing their own visions. (The bubble isn't restricted to content creatorsa number of Internet-first, bricks-and-mortar later yarn shops have started up too.) Now, we all know what happens to dot com bubbles, but in the meantime, jump on and enjoy the ride. The idea for this webring was driven by three factors: First, obviously, I'm planning to start offering my own patterns for sale. Increased hits means a likelihood of higher sales, and a chance that maybe this scheme will pay for my web hosting, and perhaps a bit of yarn. Secondly, I know that there are a number of self-published newsletters and patterns out there. Some of these entrepreneurs, who earn their living in part through their knitting-related writing and teaching, have done a good job of promoting their products. But I can think of some who aren't quite as well known who could maybe use all the free promotion they can get. Thirdly, there's the odd dilettante who already has a full-time occupation but wants to try selling their wares on the side. Some of these people have been rather successful.

I am having terrible problems holding the yarn in place to pick/scoop for my purl stitches. I've tried several methods of wrapping and finally ended up holding the yarn between my index and thumb, which is very awkward, slow and uncomfortable. This method is so fast for knitting, that if I can master the purl I will probably stay with it, rather than the English (wrap) style that I've always used. I hope you can help. A
When I teach knitting I tell my students that my dream for them is that they'll discover their own "perfect" method of knitting that suits them, and I'll never tell them that they're doing anything "wrong" as long as they're getting the result they want.

Knitting
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Knit hat, yarn, and knitting needles Knitting is one of several ways to turn thread or yarn into cloth (cf crochet ). Unlike woven fabric, knitted fabric consists entirely of parallel courses of yarn. The courses are joined to each other by interlocking loops in which a short loop of one course of yarn is wrapped over the bight of another course (Rutt, 2003). In practice, knitting is usually begun (or "cast on") by forming a base series of twisted loops of yarn on a knitting needle . A second knitting needle is then used to reach through each loop (or stitch) in succession in order to snag a bight of yarn and pull a length back through the loop. This forms a new stitch at the top of the current wale of stitches (or loops). Work can proceed in the round or by going back and forth in rows. Knitting can also be done by machines Originally a male only occupation, the first knitting trade guild was started in Paris in 1527. Knitting became a household occupation with the growing popularity of knitted stockings and by the end of the 1600's 1 to 2 million pairs of stockings were exported from Britain to other parts of Europe. The two basic stitches are knit (or "plain") and purl (or "wrong"). These two nominal stitches are actually identical, however, being the
