The Wayward Date
Dear Kay, It's been one of those kooky nights, running to the drugstore for Hubbo's grandfather Big Daddy, having to resort to Plan C for what Hubbo and I had thought would be an easy little supper out. Who are all these people? Go home, y'all! No Houston's? No Cafe Nonna? You mean . . . the McCabe Pub after sundown? Has it come to that? Plan C wasn't so terrible, but it was what anybody in the NFL would call a busted play. I returned home to find my eight-year-old fella watching "The Addams Family" for the first time. Most excellent! One of my many goals for the summer is to introduce David to the funnier things in life. And then. And THEN. I look up on my way out of the room and see this: Morticia knits! Perfection! Love,

Critter Knitters Knit-out!
Didja hear? Liz is hosting another Critter Knitters Knit-out this coming Sunday, June 13, in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY. Details are available on the Knit-out page While you're at it, check out Liz's Blankets Received page , which Liz updated Monday! Ingeborg Thought you were gonna see an update photo here, didn't you? Huh? HUH? Nope, haven't knitted on poor Ingeborg since Sunday morning. But I'll do a bit on her before the weekend so she doesn't feel too neglected. I was asked in the comments the other day how I liked knitting on Ingeborg slowly, as a secondary project. I like it and I don't like it. On the one hand, I don't feel my usual compulsion to knit the thing as quickly as possible. I don't have the usual drive I feel that makes me want to get something done NOW. And that's a good thing. Less stress. But on the other hand, I'm sort of sick of Ingeborg because she's been lying around in an unfinished state too long. There's still a lot to do before she's done this design has a lot of finishing work. There's that lace edging to be knit and applied after the neckband and front bands are done. So it seems like it'll be a lo-o-ong time before I can get her done and over with. Yawn. There are other things I want to do. But I'll stick with her and get her done.

100. The Dales Knitting Tradition
A site containing the history of the Yorkshire Dales knitting Tradition includes images and patterns. History With a history
http://www.daelnet.co.uk/features/knitting/
With a history which spans four centuries find out how the Knitting Tradition had its origins in York and was forced into more rural parts, eventually finding it's way into the Yorkshire Dales, where it has become an established trade and artform.
Find out how the Yorkshire Dales inspires design of new patterns. There are a selection of cross-stitch patterns shown here along with instructions on how to create new patterns on your own computer.
This is an area which gives you an opportunity to view some photographic images depicting the Dales Knitting tradition and some of the people and products and settings involved associated in its long history.
Sheep have been domesticated in the Dales since the Bronze Age (3-200BC), so Dales farmers have had a very long association with this animal. Indeed, during the Middle Ages the Cistercian Abbey of Fountains, became the most powerful in England, its wealth based almost entirely on sheep farming carried out on lands it owned the length and breadth of the Dales. Fountains Fell overlooking upper Ribblesdale, for example, marked the western extent of lands owned by the Abbey situated many miles to the east. At the end of the 16th century, after the Dissolution of the monasteries, local sheep and the people who reared them continued to play a crucial role in the setting up and success of England's longest and most distinctive hand-knitting industry. Today, the Dales continues to provide inspiration and raw material for many textile craft leisure groups, including hand spinning, weaving and dyeing, embroidery, hand and machine knitting, crochet etc. Long may these crafts and their enthusiasts flourish!
