  • Children are playing and working with materials or other children. They are not aimlessly wandering or forced to sit quietly for long periods of time.
Children have access to various activities throughout the day, such as block building, pretend play, picture books, paints and other art materials, and table toys such as legos, pegboards, and puzzles. Children are not all doing the same things at the same time.
Teachers work with individual children, small groups, and the whole group at different times during the day. They do not spend time only with the entire group.
Children learn numbers and the alphabet in the context of their everyday experiences. Exploring the natural world of plants and animals, cooking, taking attendance, and serving snack are all meaningful activities to children.
Children work on projects and have long periods of time (at least one hour) to play and explore. Filling out worksheets should not be their primary activity.

The Kindergarten teachers of Chico Unified School District would like to welcome you and your child to school. We hope that your child is looking forward to the first school experience with a feeling of delight and anticipation.
Our philosophy is to enable your child to have a meaningful school experience in a learning environment that will meet his/her developmental needs, and achieve the best possible education.
There must be communication and understanding between the school and home. We hope you feel comfortable enough to ask questions and express your pleasures and concerns. As part of our home/school communication program, we schedule parent conferences during the 1st quarter and as needed to discuss your individual child. You are a vital part of this network and your active participation is encouraged.
Hopefully, this will answer some of your questions. It is our attempt to bridge the gap between school and home. We all want the important kindergarten year to be a happy and satisfying one for you and your child.

    23. General Information
The curriculum of a kindergarten should be designed to cultivate children s shouldbe conducted mainly through games and activities, including conversation
    http://embhsc.hkedcity.net/kindergarten/general_e.htm
Parents should identify whether a kindergarten is registered or not. All registered kindergartens should have obtained a certificate of registration issued by the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB), specifying the name and location of the school, and are required to exhibit the certificate in a conspicuous place in the school premises. Apart from the above, parents can also check if a school registration number assigned by the EMB has been included in the advertisement or leaflets published by the kindergarten concerned.
Kindergartens should provide a safe and hygienic learning environment with adequate space and facilities so that children can play and learn in a pleasant manner.
School fees, registration fees (reservation fees) and application fees to be charged by a kindergarten are subject to the approval of the EMB. Kindergartens are required to display the fees certificate and relevant approval letters in a conspicuous place in the school premises.
Kindergartens should incorporate all the necessary expenses relating to teaching and school operation into the component items of school fees, which may include:

    • Use the PEER sequence to ask questions and facilitate discussion about stories.
    Extended Discourse
    • Enrich children's vocabulary by providing pictures and discussions that relate to stories.
    Language Play
    • Have the children sing songs that encourage language play. Children enjoy songs such as "Willaby Wallaby Woo" by Raffi and "The Name Game" by various children's artists. Play the game Snap! Play a listening game in which the children blend an onset and rhyme that you pronounce separately. Example: b...at, bat . When you first play the game, begin by using words that are in the same family, such as: hat cat fat . When the children become proficient at this type of activity, change it so that you keep the onset sound and change the rhyme: s...and sand s...un sun s...eal seal
    Writing
    • Allow time for writing, and provide a well-stocked writing center.

  • comprehend and respond personally and critically to oral, print and other media texts
  • manage ideas and information
  • enhance the clarity and artistry of communication ...
  • respect, support and collaborate with others. Each general learning outcome includes specific outcomes that students are to achieve by the end of each grade. Specific outcomes are categorized under headings within each of the five general outcomes. The specific outcomes state the knowledge, skills and attitudes that students are expected to demonstrate by the end of each grade. They are relevant for all students in a variety of learning environments and are cumulative across the grades. Students are expected to demonstrate the specific outcomes for their current grade while building on and maintaining their ability to demonstrate the specific outcomes for previous grades. It is intended that students engage in purposeful language activities that respect individual differences and emphasize the interrelated and mutually supportive nature of the general and specific outcomes.

Kindergarten Curriculum Dear Parents: I would like to welcome you to a very important year in your child’s life. It is the beginning of your child’s school career and I hope it will be rewarding and exciting. I have outlined the Principles for Programming in Kindergarten and the Areas of Learning. Also included is a list of themes and related field trips, keep in mind there may be slight changes in the program due to the specific needs of the students. The following six principles provide the framework for programming in Kindergarten.
  • Young children learn best when programming meets their developmental needs. Young children develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that prepare them for later learning. Young children with special needs through early intervention strategies develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that prepare them for later learning. Young children build a common set of experience through interaction with others. Parents have the opportunity for meaningful involvement in the education of their young children. Coordinated community services meet the needs of young children and their families.

It does have crafts, games to play online, things to download, contests, sections on special topics (like holidays, Harry Potter, and Pokemon), and pages of "kid safe" links. Their online games are organized according to which plug-in program you need to play it (which makes sense, because plug-ins can be a pain in the neck!) updated for Fall, 2002! Each grade level class has identified specific needs for each student to bring to school for organizational and programming purposes. Please make sure that names are clearly marked on anything personal (excluding tissues, towels, soap...to be shared by all) so that we can eliminate mix ups. Each student will be responsible for replacing any item that is lost or used during the year. Make sure to ask if your child still has pencils and crayons all year. It is important that each student come prepared each day.
