Denmark Introduction Back to Top Denmark, constitutional monarchy, north-western Europe, the southernmost of the Scandinavian countries. Officially the Kingdom of Denmark (in Danish, Kongeriget Danmark), it is bordered on the north by the Skagerrak, an arm of the North Sea; on the east by the Kattegatt (an extension of the Skagerrak) and the Øresund (in English, The Sound), a strait linking the Kattegatt and the Baltic Sea; on the south by the Baltic Sea, the Fehmarn strait, and Schleswig-Holstein, Germany; and on the west by the North Sea. Denmark comprises most of the Jutland, or Jylland, peninsula (extending about 338 km/210 mi in a north and south direction), and more than 400 islands in the Baltic and North seas. The principal islands lie between Jutland and Sweden. Sjaelland (in English, Zealand) is the largest in size, followed by Fyn (in English, Funen), Lolland, Falster, Langeland and Møn. About 130 km (80 mi) to the east of Sjaelland, in the Baltic, is the Danish island of Bornholm. Official Name - Kingdom of Denmark

Hong Kong Introduction Back to Top Hong Kong, administrative region of China, consisting of a mainland portion located on the country’s southeastern coast and about 235 islands. Hong Kong is bordered on the north by Guangdong Province and on the east, west, and south by the South China Sea. Hong Kong was a British dependency from the 1840s until July 1, 1997, when it passed to Chinese sovereignty as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR). The British control of Hong Kong began in 1842, when China was forced to cede Hong Kong Island to Britain after the First Opium War. In 1984 Britain and China signed the Sino-British Joint Declaration, which stipulated that Hong Kong return to Chinese rule in 1997 as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China. The Joint Declaration and a Chinese law called the Basic Law, which followed in 1990, provide for the SAR to operate with a high degree of economic autonomy for 50 years beyond 1997. Hong Kong Provinces Back to Top
none (special administrative region of China) Hong Kong People Back to Top At the time of the 1991 census, Hong Kong had a population of 5,674,114. The 2001 population was 7,210,505, indicating a population density of 6,603 persons per sq km (17,102 per sq mi). The population is unevenly distributed, however, with the greatest concentrations of people in Kowloon and across the harbor on Hong Kong Island. Some districts, such as Mong Kok in Kowloon, have population densities of about 40,000 persons per sq km (about 100,000 per sq mi), among the highest urban densities in the world. Although birth and death rates are comparatively low in Hong Kong, migration from other parts of China creates a high population growth rate, and migrants now make up about 40 percent of the population.

This section of my web site contains information on my latest hobby, model rockets. Up until the end of 1998, my boys and I had only built Estes kits and scratch-built rockets from Estes parts with engines up to D-size. We started flexing our rocket muscles in 1999. I have built a cluster rocket (a modified Estes Shadow ) that can hold up to 5 engines, with a total impulse in the lower range of F. I have also built my first true high power rocket, . This 46-inch-tall, 4-inch-diameter rocket has an auto-winding 35 mm camera in the payload bay and a 29 mm engine mount. It has been flown numerous times on F-motors: Aerotech single-use F25-4W and F50-4T, Aerotech F40-4W RMS; and NCR F62-4 and F62-6 Dark Stars. On June 11, 2000, I flew it on an Aerotech H97J-S reload in a Dr. Rockets 29/240 RMS casing for my Level 1 High Power certification flight. The hyperlinks on the left, below Rockets , will take you to my other rocket-related pages.

133. FEMA FOR KIDS: Y2K For Kids
U.S. government web site explains the Y2K problem and its implications in terms children can understand.
http://www.fema.gov/kids/y2k.htm
Y2K for Kids
ou've probably heard people talking about "Y2K" at home or on the news. You may have wondered what it meant. Y2K is shorthand for Year 2000 and is most often used when people talk about the Year 2000 computer problem. What exactly is the problem? Back in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s - when computers were first built - the people who designed the programs that make computers run used only two numbers instead of four to indicate the year. For example, 1998 was 98, and 1927 was 27. They did this to save computer space and money. Out of habit, many computer programmers continued to use two numbers instead of four in the 1980s and even in the 1990s. o now, with the year 2000 just months away, this computer "short cut" will make computers think the year 2000 is really the year 1900! The Y2K computer problem is found in computers around the world. Many small computers, called microprocessors or computer chips, run machines, such as your VCR and the elevators in our office buildings. Thousands of people have been hired to work on the problem in the government, in the places you shop, in the companies that give you water, heat, and power, and in your schools. The federal government has been working on fixing its Y2K computer problem since 1989. No one is sure how big the problem is, but everyone agrees that most of it can be fixed by the year 2000. As the year comes to a close and conversations about Y2K grow, children can't help but be aware that adults have concerned. Los Angeles-based writer Janine Patrick decided to make Y2K seem less scary to kids with her original poem, The Wytookie.

134. Sex And Kids
Arguing that the government overreaches itself, under the banner of protecting children from abuse by broadening an already shaky pornography law, this article highlights the depiction of eroticized children (which usually passes without comment) in advertisements and Hollywood.

Reel Politick
Sex and Kids
By Michael Bronski
Children and sex are inextricably linked in the conservative imagination. They are the lure and the fear, the bait and the trap, a measure of how far decent social behavior has gone down the tubes, of how a morally corrupt liberal social agenda has replaced God-fearing purity. Whether the issue is sex education, the banning of pornography, condom distribution in schools, or the specter of day-care centers overrun by ritual satanic abusers, the linkage of kids and sex is sure to make headlines, tempers boil, and, unfortunately, bad social policy. But there are plenty of situations where the linkage of kids and sex raises scarcely an eyebrow on the right or the left. Think of those numerous ads in the New York Times Magazine that feature pubescent boys and girls in scanty, sexy summer clothes by Calvin Klein or Gap. Think of TV soap advertising (particularly Ivory) that depict daddies and children frolicking naked in the bathtub. Or the Fruit of the Loom ad featuring a drop-dead hunk of a dad and his 6-year-old son walking hand-in-hand in their undies to take a morning leak together. Think about 60 years of the Coppertone ad where a dog is pulling a little girl's bathing suit down, exposing her left buttock. Kids and sex have always been a staple in advertising. In the past Hollywood films have been careful about children and sexuality. Films like Lolita and

HOME ENFORCING PRIVACY PROMISES FINANCIAL PRIVACY CREDIT REPORTING ... GLB Agencies to Consider Alternative Forms of Privacy Notices INTRODUCTION
Privacy is a central elemen t of the FTC's consumer protection mission. In recent years, advances in computer technology have made it possible for detailed information about people to be compiled and shared more easily and cheaply than ever. That ha s produced many benefits for society as a whole and individual consumers. For example, it is easier for law enforcement to track down criminals, for banks to prevent fraud, and for consumers to learn about new products and services, allowing them to make better-informed purchasing decisions. At the same time, as personal information becomes more accessible, each of us - companies, associations, government agencies, and consumers - must take precautions to protect against the misuse of our information.

A disease called anthrax has been in the news ever since a man in Florida came down with a case of it last month. Since then, a total of nine confirmed cases of anthrax have been reported in Florida, New York, New Jersey and Washington D.C. Cases of anthrax are very rare in the U.S. Officials believe these people may have become infected by handling contaminated letters.
A woman in Washington D.C. holds a bottle filled with the antibiotic medication that fights anthrax.
Investigators are looking for clues about where the letters came from and why someone would want to spread anthrax. Anthrax can be cured with antibiotics, powerful medication that fights bacteria. Still, medical and government experts are telling people to use care when opening their mail, especially if they don't know who sent it. Postmaster General John Potter announced that the Postal Service would soon mail "a postcard to everyone in America" instructing people how to handle mail more carefully. What is Anthrax?
