Caring for Raptors
(Birds of Prey) This is Wally, the Wahlberg Eagle. This is Scout, the yellow billed Kite. This is Hooch, the spotted Eagle Owl. The owl felt very heavy and I was a bit scared that it would sit on my head! I would go against anyone who harms owls I would like to find out more about owls. I learnt a lot. When the owl flew, his wings were so big. He was spotted. He had soft feathers, especially on his wings. When I was holding the beautiful owl, I was wobbling a bit. I was too scared to feel his feathers. He was a very cute owl, though. Birds of prey are important because they eat up rats which home-owners and farmers don't want. You might not notice raptors daily, but they are out there and still special to us. Owls have soft feathers to fly quietly, so that the mice which they eat have sharp hearing. The Owl is playing with a talon (foot) of raptor. The raptor was caught in a trap. The trap closes on the leg, until it dies. Even if it gets away, it will be so injured that it will die. We had a visit from Hank and his raptors that live at Spier. Hank used a piece of meat so get them to fly to him. Eagles are beautiful. Some can be very gentle like Wally (because he was hand-reared). Hooch was very playful. If wild birds are hurt, then they'll die as they can't catch food because they don't have hospitals like us. Birds can't see wire, so they often get caught or hurt in wire. Hank puts rubber around their feet to stop any wire from hurting them.

Muskoka-Parry Sound Health Unit Smoking and Tobacco Have you ever thought about what is in a puff of cigarette smoke, or what it does to your mind and body? If you are a smoker, or are thinking about starting, you should consider the following facts. It takes just seven seconds for inhaled cigarette smoke to travel into the lungs and bloodstream and then directly to the brain. Once there, nicotine from the smoke triggers many responses in the body. It affects mood, alertness, concentration and performance. Inhaling just one cigarette speeds up the heartbeat, increases blood pressure, upsets the flow of blood and air in the lungs and causes a drop in the temperature of fingers and toes. Smokers become addicted to nicotine and crave the "buzz" effect they get from it. Smokers also develop a tolerance to nicotine, which means they need more of it to get the same effect. Eventually, they reach the number of cigarettes they need to smoke to keep them satisfied. This is how smokers get hooked. It becomes a vicious cycle. They need more cigarettes to give them that good feeling. They think smoking helps relieve stress when really it is the desire for cigarettes that creates most of the stress. Smoking is also stressful on the body. In fact, it is such a strain that every cigarette smoked shortens a person's life by five minutes!

146. Creation Evidence Museum - Can We Know The God Of Creation? Who Am I? Where Did
Chartered scientific museum established to excavate and display scientific evidence for creation. Research involves experimenting within a simulated preFlood environment in a hyperbaric biosphere. Some artifact photos, info on excavations, scientific creation model, complete doctoral dissertation of Carl Baugh, Fun for kids pages. Question and answer section, critiques other views.
http://www.creationevidence.org/
Welcome to , the web site of the Creation Evidence Museum in Glen Rose, Texas. As you browse our pages you will receive educational information presenting scientific evidence for creation and design by a personal Creator. This scientifically chartered museum was established in July of 1984 for the purpose of research, excavation, and display of scientific evidence for creation. The Museum's team, led by its Founder and Director, Carl Baugh, Ph.D., has excavated eleven dinosaurs ( Acrocanthosaurus, Stegosaurus, Allosaurus , etc.), 475 dinosaur tracks, 86 human footprints, 7 cat prints, and other fossil remains - all in Cretaceous limestone. These excavations were professionally documented along the Paluxy River and various other international locations. Among museums this entity makes a unique contribution, demonstrating that man and dinosaur lived contemporaneously. Educators, professors, kids, and adherents to various religions are finding answers to the great questions of life: Who am I?, Where did I come from?, What is my purpose here?, and Where am I going? In its ongoing research to find answers to Who is God?, Was the Universe designed and created by a Creator?, and What does the Bible teach about the heavens, man, animals, plants, etc?, the Museum researches and houses artifacts from archaeology, geology, and paleontology (such as the London artifact, the Meister Print, the cup in coal, the fossilized foot in a boot, the fossilized human finger, and the like). This original research contributes significant information to the controversy between the theories of life origins, namely creation vs evolution. The Museum's research involves experimentation and simulation of Earth's original pre-Flood environment in the world's first hyperbaric biosphere. Various teaching aids, books, videos, tapes, and other resources are available through the Museum.

Havens for Wildlife on Virginia's Eastern Shore
This area is one of the most important avian migration funnels in North America. Each fall, like colorful clockwork, the refuge is the scene of a spectacular drama as millions of songbirds and monarch butterflies and thousands of raptors converge at the tip of the peninsula on their voyage south. Favorable weather patterns push migrating species through the area in waves. Clouds of tree swallows swirl over ponds and flame orange and black-winged monarch butterflies float aloft. Protected habitats such as these provide critical stopover areas where birds and butterflies can rest and feed before resuming their arduous journey.

Environment tops kids' list of concerns
The environment is the most important issue on the minds of the world's children, according to Linda Schaffer, director of the documentary Nickellennium. December 13, 1999
Web posted at: 2:25 p.m. EST (1925 GMT) By Environmental News Network staff The most important issue that kids around the world are concerned about for the future is the environment and animal rights, says the creator of a new documentary. Linda Schaffer, producer and director of the film Nickellennium, spent the last year visiting with 10,000 kids from 28 countries and asking them what they think life will be like in the next millennium. Despite differences in culture, language and background, the children had the same issues on their minds. "Without question, across every border, saving the environment is their number one concern. They understand the environmental cost of unchecked consumerism and are fiercely willing to do what's necessary to protect the Earth and the life on it, even if it means going without," she said.

Haiti Introduction Back to Top Haiti, independent republic occupying the western third of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic, and bounded on the north by the Atlantic Ocean, on the east by the Dominican Republic, on the south by the Caribbean Sea, and on the west by the Windward Passage, which separates it from Cuba. Its area is 27,750 sq km (10,714 sq mi). Port-au-Prince is Haiti's capital and largest city. Official Name- Republic of Haiti
    Capital City- Port-au-Prince
    Languages- French (official), French Creole
    Official Currency- Gourde
    Religions- Catholic, others
    Population- 7,200,000
Land Area- 27,560 sq km (10,641 sq miles)
    Haiti Provinces Back to Top
9 departments (departements, singular - departement); Artibonite, Centre, Grand'Anse, Nord, Nord-Est, Nord-Ouest, Ouest, Sud, Sud-Est Haiti People Back to Top The population of Haiti is 6,964,549 (2001 estimate), giving the country an overall population density of 251 persons per sq km (650 per sq mi). In arable areas, however, there are about five times more people than the average. Some 66 percent of the population lives in rural areas. Haitian Creole and French are the official languages. Creole is spoken by all Haitians and, with French, is used in drama, music, radio, television, politics, and religion. But written Creole is not widely accepted because the school system retains French as the main language of instruction. Creole is normally used in daily life, and French—mastered by perhaps 10 percent of the people—is used in more formal circumstances. Most of the vocabulary of Haitian Creole is derived from French, but its syntax is similar to that of some African languages and resembles the syntax of other creole languages of the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean.
