My Top Ten Picks (and growing)
Okay, so there are more than 10. There are a lot of good sites out there!
  • First and foremost, Alistair Fraser's Bad Science Page , which is really what gave me the final impetus to start my own astronomy page.
  • The USENET news group sci.astro has an excellent FAQ . Some of it has been used as a resource for the Bad Astronomy pages as well. If that connection is slow, There is a text version as well
  • Ned Wright's Cosmology FAQ is also a fantastic place to answer any questions you have about black holes, the Universe and everything. I should also place here the sci.physics FAQ too!
  • One of my favorite sites on the web is The Nine Planets , an astonishingly complete and well-written tour of the solar system. This is up to date and extremely well done. For my money, this site is one of the reasons we have a web in the first place.

Although there are many good astronomy links, the purpose of this page is to list a dozen or so great websites that have information on many different areas of astronomy or space science. We tried to avoid listing sites that contain a lot of detail about one specific topic only. If you don't see something that looks helpful here, try choosing a subject from the site menu and looking at the websites listed there!
    Archives of Astronomy links:
    General Astronomy Sites:
    • Amazing Space : Games and activities relating to a wide variety of astronomy subjects. This site was designed for classrooms, but the activities can be used by anyone. Another place to get your questions answered is using the usenet news groups sci.astro (for general astronomy questions), sci.astro.amateur (discussion on building your own telescope, buying a telescope, doing your own observing, astronomy clubs, etc.), and sci.astro.research (moderated group about current research topics - note that is really for the professional astronomer). Before you try out those news groups, see if your question has been answered in the ``Frequently Asked Questions'' list known as the sci.astro FAQ list or the sci.space FAQ list (you may want to try the sci.astro FAQ list first). If you do post a message to one of the news groups, be sure to include your email address in your message so people can reply back to you (especially if you don't read that news group that often!).
    Bad Astronomy countering the misconceptions
Phil Plait's Bad Astronomy web site is ``devoted to airing out myths and misconceptions in astronomy and related topics''. He separates the fact from all of the fiction and junk science on many television shows and movies. He does reference my Astronomy Notes material (but, why of course!).
