Memorial Weekend Run... Walk
  • "The Cooler" - snooze. One of the most mismarketed movies ever. The previous made it look like a comedy, and I think it was... kinda... but it was a little dark and was pretty slow. "Calendar Girls" - funny. The same genre as "The Fully Monty" and "Saving Grace" "Ripley's Game" - great drama. A little slow at times, but John Malkovich is brilliant. Doug Ray Scott is pretty good in it as well.
I didn't really exercise this weekend either. I taught a step class on Saturday. On Sunday, I briefly contemplated doing the Velo Girls Sunday Ride. I even woke up on time without the assistance of my alarm clock, but then decided to sleep in instead since I rarely do that. So on Monday, I decided to get off my rear and go for a run. Yes, you heard me correctly, run! I wasn't in the mood but convinced myself that I would feel much better once I got my blood pumping. My goal was to go to the aquarium and back. I started off with a light jog and then sped it up a tad. Just as I got to around

The YMCA has youth and teen orientation fitness sessions to help your child understand the importance of exercise as a lifelong component of good health and wellness. This program introduces youth and teens to age appropriate strength training equipment and cardiovascular machines in a safe, supervised environment. Your Bangor YMCA value-added membership includes a wide range of group fitness classes at no additional cost. Designed for ages 15yrs-adult, the classes are on-going, and you may join a class at any time. From beginner to advanced level, cardio to low impact, traditional to new age, there is a YMCA group fitness program for you! More than 30 adult fitness programs are offered each week. Group Exercise A detailed Class Schedule is available at the Member Service Desk. All Fitness Classes are FREE TO YMCA MEMBERS!! We offer multi-level classes where instructors can challenge both the "fit" members and encourage the "novice" exercisers. We offer a friendly atmosphere with a personalized approach. All classes are 55 minutes long unless otherwise noted, and begin with a 5 - 10 minute format specific warm-up and 5 - 10 minute cool down and final stretch. Health and fitness maintenance requires 3 cardiovascular, 2 flexibility and one strength training workout weekly. To improve any one component of fitness, additional workouts specific to that component are required. Classes will meet in the Fitness Studio unless otherwise indicated. Class Descriptions Aerobic Classes AOA (Active Older Adult - 50+) Group Exercise: Advanced aerobic and resistance conditioning components are taught in this class for the older active adult. Basic Fitness / Intermediate Fitness: Learn and enhance basic skills and techniques with varying intensities to challenge the beginning and intermediate fitness participant. 25 - 30 minutes of cardio activity and 10 - 15 minutes of toning and abdominal work.

    The Duke Health and Fitness Center has a diverse adult membership for clients age 16 and up. Many of our clients are here for general health and wellness, while others have medical conditions and need supervised fitness classes and programs.     A health club can be a great fitness motivator if you choose the right one. Before you sign on the dotted line, be sure the club you choose suits your personal needs and fitness goals. Decide what's important to you. Consider: Location One of the most important things to consider in choosing a health club is where it is. You’ll just have one more excuse not to work out if the club is out of your way or takes too long to get to. Try to find a good facility close to your home or job. Staff Instructors should be professionally certified. If you have physical limitations, make sure there’s an instructor trained to work with you. If the age of your instructors matters, find a club with more mature staff. Staff members should always be polite, helpful, and professional toward all clients.
