I have two other projects currently in the works and far from completion. The first involves fairly straightforward content analysis of the commodity and geographic coverage in feature articles of the FAS trade publication AgExporter. I presented this research in its early stages at a regional meeting of the Canadian Association of Geographers last fall. My other project addresses the reconstruction of the agriculture and food system in post-invasion Iraq by looking at processes of marketization and liberalization, and their implications for food security and food sovereignty in Iraq. Weird City Names
The US has many interesting city names. Here's a couple of the better ones that a friend and I found, using the geographic nameserver at the University of Michigan (telnet martini.eecs.umich.edu 3000): (p.s. Thanks to Senator Exon, for making this geography illegal! If you're under 18, turn off the computer and go study, uh, geography or something... :-) An oxymoron: High, Texas, and Low, Utah? * Lots of Joy, but none in California! Alabama has Intercourse, but Utah has a Virgin. Pennsylvania has Fertility, Desire, Intercourse, and Climax... Those wild Quakers! Pig, Kentucky. Louisiana has a Start, but there's no Finish... One Tiny, two Small's, and a Large. Earth, Texas, USA, Earth... Poor Uranus is the only planet in the solar system without a city. I guess it sounds bad when you say "I'm from your anus..." * 4 Rich, and only 1 Poor. * Utopia is almost everywhere. Suburban, New Jersey. * There's an Arm (MS), 2 Hand's (MI, SC), a Heart (AR), and 2 Finger's (NC, TN), but no leg, head or body anywhere. You can find a Climax in 17 states.

The Intensive English Program at Indiana University Location Map and Geography
Indiana is the yellow state above, and Bloomington is located at the green star. Our area of the United States is called the Midwest, which is mostly farming country. Southern Indiana has rolling hills and limestone caves; northern Indiana is largely flat plains land. Chicago is just right of the northwestern tip of Indiana, about a four hour drive from Bloomington. As you can see, we are closer to the eastern coast than the western coast, and it only takes about two hours to fly to cities like Washington, DC; Baltimore; New York; and Boston. Indiana's neighbor states are Illinois on the west, Ohio on the east, Michigan to the north, and Kentucky to the south. Indianapolis is the capital Indiana, and each May hosts the famous Indianapolis 500 automobile race. Purdue University, which is internationally known for it's agricultural and engineering schools, is located in Lafayette, Indiana. Bloomington is a few hours drive north of Louisville, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby horse race. Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes, touches the northwestern tip of Indiana. The Ohio River, on it's way to join the great Mississippi River south of Illinois, forms the southern border of Indiana.

Introduction
What's here?
This page presents an extensive list of 227 articles in National Geographic magazine which contain references to caving related subjects. This includes:
  • Caves (tourist, wild, significant),
  • Caving (abseiling, photography, exploration, mapping),
  • Cave biology (bats, birds, salamanders, sharks, frogs, spiders),
  • Karst (landscapes, hydrology),
  • Achaeological sites and excavations in and around caves,
  • Cave art and pictographs,
  • Cave usage by humans (shrines, dwellings, storage),
  • Cave-like rock formations and landscapes (canyons, overhangs, cliffs, glaciers, lava).
There is no Search facility, but the Find function of your WWW browser can be used to locate reference to whatever cave, location or subject you are interested. This page also contains a list of issues which we suspect to contain articles with caving references but we have not actually sighted these to verify the fact. Check your library. If you have any of these issues then we would appreciate it if you could please let us know what they contain in terms of subjects given above.
